To promote and ensure fair, accurate and inclusive representation of people and events across all forms of media as a means of eliminating discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation and promoting acceptance of LGBTQ people.Over the past year, GLAAD has hosted LGBTQ strategic panels and presences during some of the most visible global convenings including the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, the Academy Awards, the Miss Universe pageant, the MAKERS conference, South by Southwest, the Country Music Association Festival, the Emmy Awards, the Grammy Awards, and the Sundance Film Festival, among others. Through this work, GLAAD ensures LGBTQ issues are top of mind for thought leaders in business, Hollywood, and social justice.
GLAAD is the world's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) media advocacy organization.
The GLAAD Media Institute (GMI) provides tools to effectuate positive cultural change by everyone from students, activists, and community leaders, to journalists, film producers, and corporate executives. Its three pillars include, 1) Training: Providing spokesperson and media engagement education for effective storytelling); 2) Consulting: Serving industries, corporations, and organizations positioned to take a stand for justice; and 3) Research: Fielding studies, evaluating data, and developing metrics that generate annual accountability resources such as GLAAD's Accelerating Acceptance Survey, Where We Are On TV, and The Studio Responsibility Index.
The GLAAD Media Awards is the world's most visible LGBTQ event and recognizes and honors media for fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ community members and issues affecting their lives.
GLAAD's News & Rapid Response program works with journalists and news outlets in print, broadcast, and online, as a resource for newsmakers and advocates and as a watchdog to ensure fair, accurate and unbiased reporting about LGBTQ people.
