Organizations Filed Purposes: THE MISSION OF THE GOHAN SOCIETY IS TO FOSTER A MUTUAL APPRECIATION OF CULINARY HERITAGE BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES AND JAPAN THROUGH OUTREACH TO CHEFS, CULINARY ARTS STUDENTS AND PROFESSIONALS AND FOOD ENTHUSIASTS.

THE THREE LARGEST PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS ARE THE CHEF SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM, THE STUDENT PROGRAMMING IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS, AND THE EDUCATIONAL JAPAN CULTURAL PROGRAMMING. THE CHEF SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM IN JAPAN SENDS CHEFS FROM THE UNITED STATES TO JAPAN ON A TWO-WEEK CULINARY CULTURAL IMMERSION PROGRAM WHICH INCLUDES, STAGING IN TOP JAPANESE RESTAURANTS, LEARNING ABOUT NEW COOKING TECHNIQUES AND INGREDIENTS AND PROVIDING CULTURAL EXPERIENCES IN THE ARTS, FOOD AND LIFESTYLE OF JAPAN. THROUGH EXPOSURE TO THESE NEW IDEAS, CHEFS INTEGRATE KNOWLEDGE LEARNED INTO THEIR CULINARY REPERTOIRES ENHANCING THEIR ABILITIES AND PROVIDING THEM WITH INCREASED SUCCESS IN THEIR CAREERS AND FURTHERING THEIR APPRECIATION OF JAPANESE CULTURE.THE CHEF SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM IN THE U.S. IS THE OPPOSITE OF THE CHEF CULINARY PROGRAM IN JAPAN AS IT BRINGS CHEFS FROM JAPAN TO THE U.S TO EXPAND THEIR HORIZONS BY BEING IMMERSED IN A PROGRAM OF STAGING IN TOP RESTAURANTS IN THE U.S. AND EXPERIENCING CULTURAL AWARENESS OF AMERICAN PRODUCTS, ULTIMATELY FURTHERING THE CHEFS' APPRECIATION OF AMERICAN CUISINE AND PROMOTING A FIRM APPRECIATION OF CULTURE IN THE U.S.THE STUDENT PROGRAMMING IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS PROVIDES EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING IN THE PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOLS ON JAPANESE COOKING TECHNIQUES AND INGREDIENTS AND PROVIDES NUTRITIONAL EDUCATION TO STUDENTS TO HELP THEM IN CAREER EDUCATION AND TO UNDERSTAND HEALTHY OPTIONS IN EATING AND COOKING FOR THEM AND THEIR FAMILIES. THE EDUCATIONAL JAPAN CULTURAL PROGRAM CONSISTS OF GOHAN SOCIETY HOSTING A PROGRAM FOR ALL AGES ON THE HISTORY OF HINA MATSURI (DOLL'S DAY) IN JAPAN IN 2018, WITH AN EMPHASIS ON THE FOOD RELATED TO THE FESTIVAL, AND THE PRESENTER PREPARED A CHIRASHI ZUSHI FOR ALL ATTENDEES. THIS PROGRAM FOCUSED ON EDUCATING THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE OF JAPANESE CUSTOMS AND THEIR INTERRELATIONSHIP WITH CUISINE TO BROADEN A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE JAPANESE CULTURE.
