Organizations Filed Purposes: OUR MISSION IS TO PROVIDE UNDERSERVED WOMEN FROM LOW-INCOME IMMIGRANT COMMUNITIES WITH HIGH QUALITY, AFFORDABLE PRIMARY CARE AND HEALTH PROMOTION PROGRAMS, EMPOWERING THEM TO LEAD HEALTHIER LIVES.

VIDASANA: VIDASANA WAS A COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM THAT INCORPORATED AN ENHANCED PRIMARY CARE PRACTICE AND PEER GROUP MEETINGS FOR HEALTH PROMOTION TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF HARD-WORKING, LOW-INCOME WOMEN IN IMMIGRANT COMMUNITIES. VIDASANA ALSO PROVIDED MEMBERS WITH A VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES, INCLUDING: YOGA, ZUMBA, HEALTHY COOKING DEMONSTRATIONS, ESL, CRAFTS, AND A VARIETY OF EDUCATIONAL HEALTH-RELATED DISCUSSION GROUPS.GRAMEEN VIDASANA OFFICIALLY CLOSED ON JULY 31, 2020. WHILE THE PROGRAM WAS IMPACTFUL IN THE COMMUNITY AND DEMONSTRATED IMPROVED HEALTH OUTCOMES FOR MEMBERS, THE DECISION WAS MADE TO TRANSITION ALL PROGRAMMATIC EFFORTS TO THE PROMOTORAS PROGRAM, A MORE COST EFFECTIVE COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKER MODEL. THE PROMOTORAS PROGRAM WILL NOW BE THE SINGULAR PROGRAMMATIC FOCUS OF GRAMEEN PRIMACARE AS THE MODEL WILL ULTIMATELY SCALE TO OTHER UNDERSERVED AREAS AROUND THE COUNTRY.

GRAMEEN PROMOTORAS: COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKERS GRAMEEN PROMOTORAS IS A PROGRAM THAT AIMS TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF GRAMEEN AMERICA BORROWERS IN THE BRONX BY USING A COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKER APPROACH IN A NON-CLINICAL SETTING. PROMOTORAS MODELS HAVE PROVED SUCCESSFUL IN DEMOGRAPHICALLY SIMILAR COMMUNITIES AROUND THE COUNTRY AND IN CENTRAL AND SOUTH AMERICA. BASED ON KNOWLEDGE GLEANED FROM VIDASANA, GRAMEEN PROMOTORAS PROVIDES WOMEN IN THE SOUTH BRONX WITH BASIC HEALTH SCREENINGS (E.G. BMI, BLOOD PRESSURE, MENTAL HEALTH), HEALTH SYSTEM EDUCATION AND NAVIGATION, PREVENTIVE HEALTH EDUCATION, PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES, AND PEER SUPPORT. THE PROGRAM HAS THE POTENTIAL TO PRODUCE MANY IMPROVED HEALTH OUTCOMES AND BENEFITS IN A LOW-COST, EFFICIENT, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, SCALABLE MANNER. THE PROMOTORAS PROGRAM WAS DEVELOPED AND LAUNCHED IN SEPTEMBER 2016 (FY17) IN THE BRONX, SERVING APPROXIMATELY 140 WOMEN IN FY17, 500 WOMEN IN FY18, AND 3,800 WOMEN IN FY19.

EVALUATION: GRAMEEN PRIMACARE'S EVALUATION PROGRAM EMPLOYS SCIENTIFICALLY RIGOROUS RESEARCH METHODS TO IDENTIFY HEALTH NEEDS, BARRIERS AND CHALLENGES FACING OUR MEMBERS IN ORDER TO TRANSLATE FINDINGS INTO QUALITY CARE. THROUGH EVALUATION AND ANALYSIS, OUR GOAL IS TO PROVIDE ROBUST HEALTH PROGRAMS THAT SATISFY UNMET NEEDS IN THE COMMUNITY AND TO PRODUCE MEANINGFUL RESEARCH THAT CAN GENERATE HEALTH CARE REFORM, WHICH INSPIRES A MORE EQUITABLE AND EFFICIENT HEALTH SYSTEM.
