HOME CONSTRUCTION: WITH SO MANY FAMILIES BEING PRICED OUT OF AN INCREASINGLY EXPENSIVE RENTAL MARKET, WE BELIEVE THAT HARD-WORKING NEW YORKERS DESERVE A SAFE, AFFORDABLE PLACE TO CALL HOME. THAT'S WHY DEVELOPING BOTH SINGLE-FAMILY HOMES AND MULTI-FAMILY BUILDINGS IS AT THE VERY HEART OF OUR MISSION. FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED JUNE 2020, HABITAT FOR HUMANITY NEW YORK CITY CONTINUED TO DEVELOP, BUILD, AND RECONSTRUCT 371 HOUSING UNITS IN QUEENS AND BROOKLYN WITH ADDITIONAL HOUSING UNITS IN BROOKLYN, MANHATTAN, AND BRONX IN THE PIPELINE. ALL LOCATIONS ARE FINANCED BY PRIVATE CONTRIBUTIONS AND IN SOME CASES ADDITIONAL FUNDS PROVIDED BY THE CITY OF NEW YORK. FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED JUNE 2020, WE HAVE HOUSED 7 FAMILIES.

CONSTRUCTION PRESERVATION SERVICES: FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED JUNE 2020, OUR CONSTRUCTION PRESERVATION SERVICES WORKED WITH 15 INCOME RESTRICTED, AFFORDABLE CO-OPS COMPRISED OF 297 UNITS ACROSS THE BRONX, BROOKLYN, AND MANHATTAN. THE PROJECTS INCLUDED THE FOLLOWING SCOPE ITEMS: HALLWAY REPAIRS AND PAINTING IN COMMON AREAS OF 2 BUILDINGS; 3 ROOF PRESERVATIONS; FIRE ESCAPE REPAIRS AND PAINTING FOR 3 BUILDINGS; MASONRY REPAIR AND WATERPROOFING FOR THE FACADE OF 2 BUILDINGS; 1 ROOF REPLACEMENT; INTERIOR UNIT AND HALLWAY WINDOW REPAIR OF 1 BUILDING; 1 CONCRETE REPLACEMENT; SIDEWALK METAL AND HATCH REPAIR WORK OF 2 BUILDINGS. THESE SERVICES, PROVIDED AT AN AFFORDABLE COST TO THE CO-OP, KEEP COSTS LOW AND ENSURE THAT RESIDENTS CAN REMAIN IN THEIR HOMES FOR GENERATIONS.

VOLUNTEERISM: WE HAVE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FROM THE CONSTRUCTION SITE TO THE OFFICE SUITE. ALL VOLUNTEERS NEED TO BRING IS ENTHUSIASM. WE'LL TEACH THEM EVERYTHING THEY NEED TO KNOW. FROM JULY 2019 TO JUNE 2020, WE WORKED WITH APPROXIMATELY 1,000 VOLUNTEERS. WE ALSO SCHEDULE INDIVIDUALS TO WORK ON OUR SITES, ESPECIALLY DURING BUILDING EVENTS, LIKE FLEET WEEK NEW YORK CITY, DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY OF SERVICE, WOMEN BUILD, THE BUILD FOR UNITY MULTI-FAITH BUILD AND MORE. THE OPERATIONAL COST OF THE VOLUNTEER PROGRAM IS FINANCED THROUGH PRIVATE INSTITUTIONS.
