THE HAIRY CELL LEUKEMIA FOUNDATION IS DEDICATED TO IMPROVING OUTCOMES FOR PATIENTS BY ADVANCING RESEARCH INTO THE CAUSES AND TREATMENT OF HAIRY CELL LEUKEMIA, AS WELL AS BY PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES AND COMFORT TO ALL THOSE AFFECTED BY HAIRY CELL LEUKEMIA.
Dedication to improving outcomes for patients by advancing research into the causes and treatment of hairy cell leukemia, as well as educational resources and comfort.
Grant to the Ohio State University for the deployment and management of the Hairy Cell Leukemia Patient Data Registry. The Registry will aggregate the clinical data of a small and geographically diverse patient population. This Registry will help researchers identify new trends in outcomes, recognize the most effective treatments, discover previously unknown complications of hairy cell leukemia and design clinical trials for new therapies. In 2019, a grant was issued to The Ohio State University to support the continued deployment of the Registry.
Research grants and fellowship programs to advance the understanding of the biology and treatment of hairy cell leukemia and to encourage junior investigators to pursue careers in this field were made to: (2019 research grants) - University of New Mexico, and University Hospital Zurich; (2019 fellowship awards) - Stanford University Medical Center, University Hospital Zurich, and University Duisburg-Essen, and (a joint research initiative funded by LLS, HCLF, and SFMR) - Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
The Hairy Cell Leukemia Foundation hosted its annual conference in October 2019, which was attended by more than 50 leading investigators in HCL. Over 200 patients participated in a web-based seminar for patients. This meeting, which combined in-person and web-based formats, facilitated the sharing of research in HCL and empowered patients and family members with timely information about the disease.
