Organizations Filed Purposes: To facilitate the creation, sustainability and growth of local businesses with a particular emphasis on Black owned businesses by providing intensive, culturally competent and sensitive technical assistance and cutting edge workshops to our clients.

TDX/MTA SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM: HBA is working with TDX Construction to assist contractors in gaining the knowledge and tools to successfully compete on MTA and other public/private sector contracts. Specifically, HBA assesses contractors capacity, develops action plans and conducts comprehensive website reviews with recommendations for improvement.

FINANCIAL LITERACY - NYC DEPARTMENT OF SMALL BUSINESS SERVICES: HBAs one-on-one technical assistance builds on its workshops and includes, but is not limited to, helping entrepreneurs with strategic and financial planning, utilizing technology, branding and social media. HBA held 102 one-on-one consultation sessions, presented/co-hosted 18 workshops to 1,202 attendees, and spent 266.5 hours on 122 clients.

THE LILLIAN PROJECT - WKKF FOUNDATION: This program is an extension of the work HBA does and represents a practice of designing programs to meet gaps in service. The Lillian Project targets Harlem-based low income women who either need help getting a small, usually home-based, business up and running, or are passionate about an idea, but dont know how to turn their idea into a thriving business. Most qualified applicants are mothers of school-aged children; and many are heads of single parent households. Having a business can give a woman the ability to support her family financially and provide her with the flexibility to care for her children.
