Organizations Filed Purposes: THE HARLEM EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES FUND (HEAF) CHANGES THE LIVES OF UNDERSERVED YOUNG PEOPLE BEGINNING IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND CONTINUING IN COLLEGE AND BEYOND THROUGH A YOUTH DEVELOPMENT APPROACH THAT INCLUDES RIGOROUS YEAR-ROUND ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT, SOCIAL AND CULTURAL EXPOSURE AND CONSTANT INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION. HEAF IS COMMITTED TO CREATING EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES AND EQUAL CHANCES FOR OUR SCHOLARS. DURING THE COVID-CRISIS, HEAF PROGRAMMING TRANSITIONED TO ENSURE THAT ALL OUR STUDENTS CONTINUE TO RECEIVE OUR ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT AND SUPPORT SERVICES. WE ADAPTED OUR PROGRAMMING AND BEGAN PROVIDING VIRTUAL CLASSES AND TUTORING FOR OUR STUDENTS ON MARCH 23RD. 2020.

THE ORGANIZATION IS A COMPREHENSIVE, NON-PROFIT SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATION AND YOUTH DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATION THAT HELPS DEDICATED PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS FROM NEW YORK CITY DEVELOP THE INTELLECTUAL CURIOSITY, ACADEMIC ABILITY, SOCIAL VALUES AND PERSONAL RESILIENCY THEY NEED TO ENSURE SUCCESS IN SCHOOL, CAREER AND LIFE. HEAF IDENTIFIES STUDENTS IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND SUPPORTS THEM UNTIL THEY ARE SUCCESSFULLY ADMITTED TO A FOUR YEAR COLLEGE THROUGH A VARIETY OF AFTERSCHOOL, SATURDAY AND SUMMER EDUCATIONAL AND YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS.

HEAF'S ACADEMIC MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAMMING PROVIDES UNDERSERVED MINORITY NEW YORK CITY MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH TOOLS, RESOURCES AND SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL SUPPORT NECESSARY TO THRIVE IN MIDDLE SCHOOL. THE PROGRAM PREPARES STUDENTS FOR ACCEPTANCE INTO THEIR BEST-FIT HIGH SCHOOLS, THROUGH INSTRUCTION IN ENGLISH AND MATH, PREPARATION FOR THE NYC SPECIALIZED HIGH SCHOOL ACCEPTANCE TEST, AND ELECTIVES IN SCIENCE, ARTS, AND FOREIGN LANGUAGES. WE DELIVER SERVICES FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS OUT OF THREE PROGRAM SITES; OUR MAIN SITE IN HARLEM OUR SITE IN BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN, AND NEW SITE OPENED IN QUEENS. IN FY20 PROGRAMMING AT ALL THREE SITES TOOK PLACE MONDAYS THROUGH FRIDAYS 4:30 P.M. - 6:00 P.M., AND SATURDAYS 9:00 A.M. - 2:30 P.M., THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR. [SEE CONTINUATION ON SCHEDULE O]OUR HARLEM PROGRAM SERVED 160 MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS. OUR BROOKLYN PROGRAM SERVED 60 MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS. THERE WERE 40 STUDENTS SERVED AT OUR QUEENS SITE. DURING THE SUMMER, WE OFFERED A FOUR-WEEK SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM FOR 185 MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS AT OUR HARLEM SITE, OPERATING MONDAYS THROUGH FRIDAYS 9:30 A.M. - 4:30 P.M. THE BROOKLYN SUMMER PROGRAM WAS EXPANDED TO FIVE WEEKS TO MIRROR HARLEM'S PROGRAM SERVING 70 MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS. SWITCHED TO VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING MONDAYS THROUGH FRIDAYS ON MARCH 23, 2020

HEAF'S ACADEMIC HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMMING PROVIDES UNDERSERVED MINORITY NEW YORK CITY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH RESOURCES TO PURSUE AND COMPLETE A COLLEGE EDUCATION, AND CONTINUE ONTO PROFESSIONAL CAREERS. THE PROGRAM CONTINUES OUR PROGRAM OF ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT AND YOUTH DEVELOPMENT THAT STARTS IN MIDDLE SCHOOL WHILE BRINGING GREATER FOCUS TO COLLEGE EXPLORATION, COLLEGE READINESS, AND THE COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS. SERVICES DURING FY20 WERE DELIVERED OUT OF HEAF'S MAIN SITE IN HARLEM, TAKING PLACE MONDAYS THROUGH FRIDAYS 4:30 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR. [SEE CONTINUATION ON SCHEDULE O]DURING THE SUMMER, STUDENTS RECEIVE COLLEGE APPLICATION HELP, SPECIAL PROJECTS, AND CAREER MENTORING AS NEEDED. IN FY20, HEAF SERVED 180 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND 150 COLLEGE STUDENTS. PROGRAMMING AT OUR BROOKLYN SITE TOOK PLACE SATURDAYS 9:00 A.M. - 2:30 P.M. OUR BROOKLYN PROGRAM SERVED 60 STUDENTS. SWITCHED TO VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING MONDAYS THROUGH FRIDAYS ON MARCH 23, 2020

HEAF'S YOUTH DEVELOPMENT'S MISSION IS TO SERVE AS AN INNOVATIVE LABORATORY FOR LEARNING AND SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT, WHERE STUDENTS FEEL EMPOWERED TO BE THEMSELVES WHILE ALSO ACCESSING RESOURCES, SUPPORT, AND GUIDANCE TO HELP THEM DISCOVER THEIR FULL POTENTIAL. YD TRANSCENDS THE IDEA OF A TRADITIONAL ACADEMIC CLASSROOM AND IS INSTEAD A SPACE THAT RECOGNIZES THE STUDENT AS THE EXPERT OF THEIR OWN EXPERIENCE AND PROMOTES THE SHARING OF ONE'S THOUGHTS, FEELINGS, AND IDEAS. THE PROGRAM OFFERS OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT, CHARACTER BUILDING, CAREER EXPLORATION, AND SERVICE-LEARNING ACTIVITIES. [SEE CONTINUATION ON SCHEDULE O]WE DO THIS BY OFFERING GENEROUS ONE-ON-ONE AND GROUP TIME PER STUDENT, AS WELL AS ACCESS TO A RICH MENU OF YOUTH DEVELOPMENT AND COUNSELLING SERVICES, INCLUDING LEADERSHIP RETREATS, GENDER-SPECIFIC RESILIENCY PROGRAMS, AND YOUTH-LED SERVICE ACTIVITIES. IN FY20, THE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM WAS EXPANDED TO SERVE ALL OUR STUDENTS FROM 6 THROUGH 12TH GRADES, AND SERVED 460 MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. STUDENTS ATTENDED CLASS ONCE EACH WEEK; CLASSES WERE OFFERED AT HEAF'S HARLEM SITE MONDAYS THROUGH FRIDAYS 4:30 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. AND BROOKLYN AND QUEENS SITE SATURDAYS 9 AM - 2:30 PM.
