HARM REDUCTION COALITION (HRC) IS A NATIONAL ADVOCACY AND CAPACITY-BUILDING ORGANIZATION THAT PROMOTES THE HEALTH AND DIGNITY OF INDIVIDUALS AND COMMUNITIES IMPACTED BY DRUG USE. HRC ADVANCES POLICIES AND PROGRAMS THAT HELP PEOPLE ADDRESS THE ADVERSE EFFECTS OF DRUG USE INCLUDING OVERDOSE, HIV, HEPATITIS C, ADDICTION, AND INCARCERATION. THE MISSION OF HARM REDUCTION COALITION (HRC) IS NATIONAL HARM REDUCTION EDUCATION, INTERVENTION, AND COMMUNITY TO REDUCE DRUG RELATED HARM.
TRAINING AND EDUCATION - THE INSTITUTE AT HRC IS A NATIONAL TRAINING AND CAPACITY-BUILDING INITIATIVE THAT PROMOTES THE HEALTH AND DIGNITY OF INDIVIDUALS AND COMMUNITIES IMPACTED BY DRUG USE BY PROVIDING SKILLS-BUILDING ACTIVITIES TO SERVICE PROVIDERS AND OTHER COMMUNITY STAKEHOLDERS. THE INSTITUTE ACCOMPLISHES THIS BY OFFERING TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, TRAININGS, INFORMATIONAL WORKSHOPS, SOCIAL MARKETING, AND MENTORING ON TOPICS RELATED TO HARM REDUCTION INCLUDING SUBSTANCE USE, OPIATE OVERDOSE, HIV/AIDS, AND HEPATITIS C.
COMMUNITY ORGANIZING - THE HARM REDUCTION COALITION'S POLICY DEPARTMENT ADVOCATES FOR HARM REDUCTION APPROACHES TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF DRUG USERS AND THEIR COMMUNITIES. THE POLICY DEPARTMENT SEEKS TO CREATE CHANGE ON THE LOCAL, STATE, NATIONAL, AND INTERNATIONAL LEVELS THROUGH A RANGE OF STRATEGIES INCLUDING DIRECT ADVOCACY WITH POLICY MAKERS, POLICY ANALYSIS, EDUCATION, AND COALITION-BUILDING.
CONFERENCES - HRC SPONSORS AND ORGANIZES REGIONAL CONFERENCES BI-ANNUALY, AND THE ONLY NATIONAL HARM REDUCTION CONFERENCE IN THE UNITED STATES. HRC CONFERENCES PROVIDE A CRITICAL AND UNIQUE FORUM FOR THE EXPLORATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF HARM REDUCTION PRACTICE, THEORY, AND POLICY, AND SERVE AS CRUCIAL NETWORKING MECHANISMS FOR INDIVIDUALS WORKING IN HARM REDUCTION.
