FOUNDED IN 1971, THE HOUSE FOUNDATION FOR THE ARTS, INC. (THE HOUSE) IS A NONPROFIT PERFORMING ARTS AND CULTURE ORGANIZATION WITH A MISSION TO PROMOTE, DISSEMINATE AND CELEBRATE THE WORK OF THE ICONIC AMERICAN ARTIST MEREDITH MONK. FOR THE PAST 46 YEARS, THE HOUSE HAS SERVED AS A VEHICLE TO SHARE MONK'S WORK WITH THE WORLD. THE HOUSE PROVIDES DEVELOPMENT, MANAGEMENT, PRODUCTION AND ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES FOR MONK AND MEREDITH MONK & VOCAL ENSEMBLE. THE HOUSE'S CORE PROGRAMMING INCLUDES LIVE PERFORMANCES, FILM SCREENINGS, ARTIST TALKS, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AND WORKSHOPS FOR PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS. THE HOUSE IS COMMITTED TO BUILDING A LEGACY FOR MONK AND TO SHARING HER PROLIFIC BODY OF WORK WITH FUTURE GENERATIONS OF ARTISTS, SCHOLARS AND THE PUBLIC.

IN FISCAL YEAR 2020, MEREDITH MONK & VOCAL ENSEMBLE BOASTED MANY PROGRAMMATIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS. MEREDITH MONK & VOCAL ENSEMBLE ENGAGED THOUSANDS OF INDIVIDUALS THROUGH PERFORMANCES AND EVENTS BOTH IN-PERSON AND ONLINE IN COMMUNITIES HERE IN NEW YORK CITY, NATIONALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY. NYC HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDED SCREENINGS OF THE NEWLY REMASTERED "QUARRY FILM 1975/1977X AND SOLO PERFORMANCES BY MEREDITH MONK IN THE ECM 50TH ANNIVERSARY CONCERT AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER. NATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDED PERFORMANCES OF "CELLULAR SONGS: CONCERT VERSION" AT THE HIRSHHORN MUSEUM IN WASHINGTON D.C., AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER AND AT THE HARTT SCHOOL IN WEST HARTFORD, CT AS WELL AS PERFORMANCES OF "TRIO CONCERT" AT INSTITUTE OF ADVANCED STUDY IN PRINCETON, NJ AND AT GRACE CATHEDRAL IN SAN FRANCISCO, CA. INTERNATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE PERFORMANCES OF "CELLULAR SONGS: CONCERT VERSION" IN BOTH HAMBURG AND DUSSELDORF, GERMANY. IN ADDITION, MEREDITH MONK ALONG WITH VOCAL ENSEMBLE MEMBERS, LED SEPARATE WEEKEND LONG WORKSHOPS AT THE GARRISON INSTITUTE AND OMEGA INSTITUTE IN UPSTATE NEW YORK, AND AT 1440 MULTIUNIVERSITY IN SAN JOSE, CA. THE HOUSE FOUNDATION PRODUCED ITS BI-ANNUAL VOCAL ENSEMBLE WEEKEND WORKSHOP IN JANUARY, TRAINING ARTISTS AND EDUCATORS IN MONK'S PERFORMANCE METHODS AND ARTISTIC PHILOSOPHY IN HER LOFT IN NEW YORK CITY. AS OF MARCH 2020, DUE TO THE GLOBAL PANDEMIC, THE HOUSE FOUNDATION MOVED ALL PROCEEDING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS TO ONLINE PLATFORMS REACHING AUDIENCES ACROSS THE GLOBE IN MAY AND JUNE IN THE FORM OF SUNDAY AFTERNOON WORKSHOPS FOCUSING ON VOICE AND MOVEMENT PRACTICE.
