Organizations Filed Purposes: IRTS BUILDS FUTURE MEDIA LEADERS VIA ACCESS, EDUCATION, AND DIVERSITY. THE IRTS FOUNDATION BRINGS TOGETHER THE WISDOM AND POWER OF TODAY'S LEADERS TO TRAIN AND EDUCATE THE NEXT GENERATION OF MEDIA AND COMMUNICATION PROFESSIONALS. THE IRTS SUMMER FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM PROVIDES OUTSTANDING, COMPETITIVELY SELECTED STUDENTS FROM ACROSS THE NATION WITH A CHANCE TO EXPERIENCE THE REALITIES OF WORKING IN THE MEDIA INDUSTRY. THE NINE-WEEK, EXPENSE-PAID OPPORTUNITY BEGINS WITH A ONE-WEEK ORIENTATION, WHERE STUDENTS HAVE A RARE CHANCE TO MEET PROFESSIONALS THROUGHOUT THE INDUSTRY DURING FIELD TRIPS, PANELS, AND A MAJOR INDUSTRY EVENT. AFTER FIRST GAINING A COMPREHENSIVE UNDERSTANDING OF OUR INDUSTRY, FELLOWS MOVE ON TO AN EIGHT-WEEK FULL-TIME INTERNSHIP AT A NEW-YORK BASED CORPORATION. IRTS CONTINUES TO PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS AND CAREER COUNSELING THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER. FELLOWS RECEIVE TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM NEW YORK, HOUSING, AND AN ALLOWANCE. GRADUATES OF OUR PROGRAM EMERGE WITH A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF OUR BUSINESS, ALONG WITH CAREFULLY HONED SKILLS THAT INCREASE MARKETABILITY IN THE JOB SEARCH. THE IRTS BROADCAST SALES ASSOCIATES TRACK IS ALSO PART OF THE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM. IT WAS SPECIFICALLY CREATED TO INCREASE DIVERSITY AT TELEVISION STATION GROUPS BY PROVIDING THE KIND OF EXPERIENCE THAT LEADS TO MANAGEMENT TRACKS.

IRTS FACULTY SEMINARS PROVIDE A FORUM FOR UNIVERSITY EDUCATORS FROM ACROSS THE NATION TO MEET WITH TOP MEDIA EXECUTIVES TO UNDERSTAND THE SWEEPING CHANGES TAKING PLACE IN OUR INDUSTRY, AS WELL AS WHERE THE GREATEST OPPORTUNITIES EXIST FOR THEIR STUDENTS. THEY ALLOW PROFESSORS TO KEEP THEIR TEACHING MORE TIMELY AND RELEVANT. IN 2019, THE SEMINAR WAS HELD IN LAS VEGAS IN ORDER FOR PROFESSORS TO NOT ONLY ATTEND OUR FACULTY-EXCLUSIVE CONFERENCE, BUT TO ALSO GAIN COMPLIMENTARY ACCESS TO INTERNATIONAL CES WITH KEYNOTE SPEAKERS, SUPER SESSIONS, AND EXHIBITIONS ON THE LATEST INNOVATIONS IN TECHNOLOGY.

SINCE 1983, THE ANNUAL IRTS MULTICULTURAL CAREER WORKSHOP HAS HELPED INCREASE DIVERSITY IN THE MEDIA BUSINESS BY EDUCATING STUDENTS AND RECENT GRADUATES ABOUT OPPORTUNITIES IN OUR INDUSTRY, AS WELL AS BY INTRODUCING THEM TO RECRUITERS FROM TOP COMPANIES.
