Organizations Filed Purposes: To support and advance trademarks and related intellectual property as elements of fair and effective commerce, to protect the interests of the public with respect to the uses of trademarks and related intellectual property, to promote the interests of the members of the Association and of trademark owners in the uses of their trademarks and related intellectual property, and to obtain, collect, and disseminate information concerning the use, registration, protection, and enforcement of trademarks and related intellectual property throughout the world.

INTA was founded in 1878 by 17 merchants and manufacturers who saw a need for an organization "to protect and promote the rights of trademark owners, to secure useful legislation and to give aid and encouragement to all efforts for the advancement and observance of trademark rights." INTA's members are more than 7,200 organizations from 191 countries. INTA members collectively contribute almost $12 trillion (US); 8.8 trillion (EU); 73 trillion (China) to global GDP annually. The Association's member organizations represent some 31,000 trademark professionals and include brand owners from major corporations as well as small- and medium-sized enterprises, law firms and nonprofits. There are also government agency members as well as individual professor and student members. INTA undertakes advocacy work throughout the world to advance trademarks and offers educational programs and informational and legal resources of global interest. INTA is headquartered in New York City with offices in Brussels, Santiago, Shanghai, Washington D.C. and Singapore. INTA has representatives in Geneva and New Delhi.
