JOB PATH SUPPORTS PEOPLE WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES IN THEIR EFFORTS TO MAKE CHOICES ABOUT THEIR LIVES. WE HELP PEOPLE FIND JOBS AND ESTABLISH CAREERS, LIVE IN THEIR OWN HOMES AND PARTICIPATE IN COMMUNITY LIFE. JOB PATH STRIVES TO BE A REFLECTIVE ORGANIZATION WHERE STAFF LISTEN CAREFULLY TO THE PEOPLE THEY SUPPORT AND THOUGHTFULLY CONSIDER HOW TO DO THEIR WORK.

SUPPORTED LIVINGOUR SUPPORTED LIVING PROGRAM PROVIDES AN ALTERNATIVE TO TRADITIONAL GROUP HOMES. THE PROGRAM HELPS PEOPLE FIND APPROPRIATE HOUSING AND PUT IN PLACE WHATEVER STAFFING SUPPORTS THEY NEED TO MANAGE THEIR LIVES, THEIR HEALTH AND THEIR HOUSEHOLDS. SOME PEOPLE LIVE ALONE WHILE OTHERS LIVE WITH ONE OR TWO ROOMMATES. IN SOME CIRCUMSTANCES, PEOPLE LIVE WITH A NONDISABLED ROOMMATE WHO PROVIDES SOME OF THEIR SUPPORTS. INDIVIDUALS RECEIVE WHATEVER LEVEL OF ASSISTANCE THEY NEED FROM A FEW HOURS PER WEEK UP TO 24/7. IN THE 2019-2020 FISCAL YEAR, THIS PROGRAM SUPPORTED 37 INDIVIDUALS. WITH THE COVID EMERGENCY, THE FOCUS IN SUPPORT LIVING SHIFTED TO ENSURING THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF THE INDIVIDUALS AND OUR STAFF. IN THE EARLY DAYS, LIKE MOST IN THE CITY, WE SCRAMBLED TO FIND PPE AND SANITIZING SUPPLIES. THANKFULLY, WE WERE ABLE TO BUILD A STOCKPILE. STAFF RESPONDED HEROICALLY, WORKING WHENEVER AND WHEREVER NECESSARY.

EMPLOYMENTTHE BEGINNING OF THE COVID 19 PANDEMIC AFFECTED OUR OPERATIONS SIGNIFICANTLY. WE TURNED TO VIRTUAL SERVICES WHEREVER POSSIBLE AND PUT IN PLACE ROBUST SERVICES TO ENSURE THE HEALTH OF SAFETY OF THE PEOPLE WE SUPPORT IN OUR RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMS. PROFIT MARGINS WERE DOWN AS A RESULT, AND WE APPLIED FOR ASSISTANCE THROUGH THE PAYROLL PROTECTION PROGRAM. EMPLOYMENT REMAINS AT THE HEART OF OUR WORK. PEOPLE WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES ARE VASTLY UNDERREPRESENTED IN THE WORKFORCE; FEWER THAN 20% HOLD JOBS. AT JOB PATH, WE PLACE 85% OF OUR ENROLLEES AND 85% OF THOSE PLACED RETAIN THEIR JOBS FOR A YEAR OR LONGER. IN FY'20, JOB PATH'S EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM SUPPORTED JUST UNDER 300 INDIVIDUALS. CUSTOMIZED EMPLOYMENT STRATEGIES PROVIDE THE FOUNDATION FOR JOB PATH'S WORK. THESE STRATEGIES PINPOINT THE SKILLS AND TALENTS THAT EVEN PEOPLE WITH THE MOST SIGNIFICANT DISABILITIES CAN BRING TO THE WORKFORCE AND PROVIDE WAYS TO WORK WITH BUSINESSES TO CREATE JOBS THAT WORK FOR BOTH THE EMPLOYEE AND THE EMPLOYER. JOB PATH'S CONSORTIUM FOR CUSTOMIZED EMPLOYMENT BRINGS TOGETHER 13 ORGANIZATIONS THAT ARE COMMITTED TO USING CUSTOMIZED EMPLOYMENT FOR THEIR JOB SEEKERS. THE CONSORTIUM HAS DEVELOPED A NETWORK OF MORE THAN 60 BUSINESSES THAT UNDERSTAND THESE STRATEGIES AND USE THEM TO HIRE JOB SEEKERS FROM MEMBER AGENCIES. UNDER THE AUSPICES OF OUR EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM, WE OPERATE TWO PROJECTS THAT HELP SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS PLAN AND PREPARE FOR EMPLOYMENT AND ADULT LIFE. IN ADDITION, PROJECT NEXT STEP HELPS INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE CURRENTLY EMPLOYED ADVANCE IN THEIR CAREERS. FINALLY, THIS YEAR BEGAN PLANNING PROJECT SKILL BUILD, A TRAINING PROGRAM THAT IS DESIGNED TO HELP YOUNG PEOPLE BUILD SKILLS THAT WILL LEAD TO CUSTOMIZED JOBS IN THE PHARMACIES AND THE BAKING INDUSTRY. WHEN THE COVID EMERGENCY AROSE, ABOUT 85% OF THE PEOPLE WHO WERE WORKING WERE FURLOUGHED. OUR STAFF MOVED QUICKLY TO HELP PEOPLE OBTAIN UNEMPLOYMENT, AN ARDUOUS TASK IN THOSE EARLY DAYS. WHILE WE CONTINUED TO PROVIDE IN-PERSON SUPPORT TO THOSE PEOPLE WHO REMAINED ON THEIR JOBS, WE MOVED RAPIDLY TO DEVELOP A WIDE ARRAY OF VIRTUAL SERVICES TO HELP THOSE WHO WERE LAID OFF REMAIN KEEP UP THEIR SKILLS AND LEARN NEW ONES AND ENGAGE WITH PEERS AND JOB PATH STAFF. IN PARTICULAR, STAFF HELPED INDIVIDUALS LEARN NEW COMPUTER SKILLS SO THAT THEY COULD PARTICIPATE IN THESE PROGRAMS.

DAY SUPPORTS (COMMUNITY SUPPORTS/LIFE COACHING)THIS PROGRAM WAS ESTABLISHED IN THE EARLY 1990S AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO GROUP-ORIENTED DAY HABILITATION PROGRAMS. THE PROGRAM SUPPORTS JUST OVER 100 INDIVIDUALS AS THEY VOLUNTEER, FURTHER THEIR EDUCATION IN COLLEGE AND COMMUNITY CLASSES AND PARTICIPATE IN SOCIAL, RECREATIONAL AND CIVIC ACTIVITIES IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. PEOPLE HAVE THEIR OWN SCHEDULES BASED ON THEIR INTERESTS AND NEEDS AND ARE SUPPORTED BY JOB PATH'S DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL STAFF.THE PROGRAM OFFERS GROUP ACTIVITIES AS WELL. WE HOLD A WEEKLY ARTISTS STUDIO, HOST THE OUTSIDE VOICES THEATER COMPANY AND A POETRY COLLECTIVE AND RUN SEVERAL SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS. MANY CHOOSE TO ATTEND OUR FRIDAY MORNING NEW PATH GATHERING IN THE JOB PATH OFFICE. THE FIRST FEW MONTHS OF THE PANDEMIC HAD A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON THE OPERATIONS OF THIS PROGRAM. VIRTUALLY ALL OF THE ORGANIZATIONS WHERE PEOPLE VOLUNTEERED OR PARTICIPATED WERE SHUTTERED. AS IN OUR EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMS, THE STAFF IN COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS PIVOTED TO A VIRTUAL SERVICE ENVIRONMENT, QUICKLY ARRANGING A RICH ARRAY OF GROUPS, WORKSHOPS AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES THAT MET ONLINE. DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONALS CONNECTED INDIVIDUALLY TO PEOPLE TO HELP THEM LEARN THE COMPUTER SKILLS THEY NEEDED IN ORDER TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS PROGRAM. IN SOME INSTANCES, PEOPLE HAD THE ASSISTANCE OF FAMILY MEMBERS OR STAFF IN THEIR RESIDENCES.
