TO SERVE AND SUPPORT THE ART OF DANCE AND CHOREOGRAPHY, PROMOTE THE RICHNESS AND VARIETY OF THE ART FORM IN ITS FULLEST EXPRESSION, AND ENHANCE THE PUBLIC INTEREST IN, AND APPRECIATION OF, DANCE AND THE ALLIED ARTS OF MUSIC, DESIGN, AND THEATER.
THE ORGANIZATION'S PRIMARY EXEMPT PURPOSE IS TO PROMOTE, CULTIVATE, SPONSOR, DEVELOP, AID AND ADVANCE THE PUBLIC INTEREST IN, AND APPRECIATION OF, THE ART OF DANCE AND CHOREOGRAPHY, THE RELATED ARTS OF MUSIC, PAINTING, DESIGN AND THEATER.
DANCE PRESENTING:THE JOYCE PRESENTS A DIVERSE ROSTER OF DANCE COMPANIES FROM AROUND THE WORLD AND IS RESPONSIBLE FOR FINANCING AND MANAGING ALL SERVICES INCLUDING ADV/PROMO, ARTISTIC FEES AND TECHNICAL COSTS. 30 SMALL AND MID-SIZED COMPANIES WERE PRESENTED OVER 34 WEEKS AT THE JOYCE THEATER.
ENGAGEMENT ASSISTANCE (DANCE RENTAL):NON-PROFIT DANCE COMPANIES RENT THE JOYCE THEATER AT A SUBSIDIZED WEEKLY RENTAL FEE THAT IS LESS THAN 50% OF THE ACTUAL WEEKLY COST OF OPERATING THE THEATER. 11 MID-SIZED COMPANIES RENTED THE JOYCE THEATER FOR 14 WEEKS.
PRODUCING, TOURING, AND ARTIST SERVICES:CHOREOGRAPHERS, DANCERS, AND MUSICIANS ARE IDENTIFIED TO COLLABORATE ON DANCE CREATION PROJECTS. CREATION PROJECTS MAY SPAN FROM THREE MONTHS TO THREE YEARS AND ARE EXPECTED TO CULMINATE WITH A PREMIER PERFORMANCE AT THE JOYCE THEATER WITH FURTHER EXPECTATIONS FOR TOURING UNDER THE JOYCE THEATER PRODUCTIONS PROGRAM. FIVE CHOREOGRAPHIC CREATION PROJECTS WERE PRODUCED AND ONE FULL-YEAR TOUR WAS RUN IN FY2019. ARTIST SERVICES INCLUDED PARTICIPATION IN THE HUDSON RIVER DANCE FESTIVAL AND THE ANNUAL SHOWCASE FOR PRESENTERS.
