Organizations Filed Purposes: LIVING CITIES HARNESSES THE COLLECTIVE POWER OF PHILANTHROPY AND FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF LOW-INCOME PEOPLE AND THE CITIES WHERE THEY LIVE.

KNOWLEDGE & INFLUENCE - WORK IN THIS AREA INCLUDES THE ORGANIZATIONAL EVALUATION OF LIVING CITIES AS WELL AS INITIATIVES TO FOSTER THE SPREAD OF EXPERIMENTATION AND ADOPTION OF PROMISING APPROACHES BY ADOPTING AN OPEN SOURCED AND NETWORKED APPROACH TO SHARE KNOWLEDGE. LIVING CITIES WORKS CLOSELY WITH NETWORKS OF PRACTITIONERS TO RAPIDLY PROTOTYPE AND SHARE WHAT IS BEING LEARNED IN REAL-TIME WITH THE BROADER SOCIAL CHANGE FIELD.

CITY ACCELERATOR COHORTS - THE CITY ACCELERATOR, AN INITIATIVE OF THE CITI FOUNDATION AND LIVING CITIES, WORKS WITHIN AND ACROSS CITIES TO ADVANCE AND PROMOTE THE SPREAD OF PROMISING INNOVATIONS THAT WILL HAVE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT IN THE LIVES OF RESIDENTS. SINCE 2014, THE CITY ACCELERATOR HAS SELECTED 21 U.S. CITIES TO PILOT INNOVATIVE EFFORTS THAT GENERATE ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES FOR LOW-INCOME POPULATIONS AND HELP MUNICIPALITIES RUN MORE EFFECTIVELY. PARTICIPATING CITIES ALSO BENEFIT FROM ONGOING INTERACTION WITH LEADING PRACTITIONERS FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY AND SHARE LESSONS LEARNED TO HELP OTHER CITIES ADVANCE SIMILAR WORK. CITY ACCELERATOR IS A $7.395 MILLION (COMBINED SIX YEARS) INITIATIVE LED BY LIVING CITIES AND SUPPORTED BY THE CITI FOUNDATION TO ADVANCE INNOVATION IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT. IN A PERIOD OF POLARIZED NATIONAL POLITICS, CITIZENS ARE LOOKING TO CITY GOVERNMENTS TO SOLVE CHALLENGES. THE CHALLENGES CITIES FACE ARE COMPLEX, SO IT TAKES INPUT FROM DIFFERENT SECTORS, DEPARTMENTS AND COMMUNITIES TO DEVELOP INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS. CITY ACCELERATOR BROUGHT CITIES TOGETHER TO PILOT NEW IDEAS, DISCARD WHAT FAILS AND SCALE WHAT WORKS. CITIES BROKE DOWN BARRIERS BETWEEN DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS AND AGENCIES OF GOVERNMENT TO CREATE NEW PARTNERSHIPS THAT SCALED INNOVATION.CITY GOVERNMENTS ENGAGED DIRECTLY WITH LOCAL COMMUNITIES TO UNDERSTAND HOW TO DELIVER SERVICES IN A MORE EFFICIENT AND EFFECTIVE WAY. CITIES CREATED A CULTURE OF INNOVATION BY ENCOURAGING PEOPLE AT ALL LEVELS OF CITY GOVERNMENT TO DEVELOP, CREATE AND IMPLEMENT IDEAS THAT BREAK THE STATUS QUO. CITY ACCELERATOR CAN SERVE AS A MODEL TO SCALE LOCAL GOVERNMENT INNOVATION TO CITIES ACROSS THE U.S.

PRIVATE SECTOR INNOVATION - BY WORKING WITH PUBLIC SECTOR LEADERS TO FOSTER MORE NIMBLE, COLLABORATIVE, AND DATA-DRIVEN LOCAL GOVERNMENTS, LIVING CITIES SEEKS TO CHANGE THE CONVERSATION ABOUT CITIES BY PROMOTING THE ASSETS AND POTENTIAL OF URBAN NEIGHBORHOODS AND THEIR RESIDENTS.
