Organizations Filed Purposes: To keep alive and accessible the traditional styles of world music and dance including but not limited to those from India, Japan, Korea,China, the South Pacific, Myanmar, the Middle East, Indonesia, the Philippines, the Mohawk Nation, West Africa and Spain.

Lotus Music & Dance is a cultural and educational institution dedicated to the teaching, performance and preservation of the dance and music traditions of all world cultures. The activities by our master artists foster artistic development, as well as cultural and social exchange. Our intention is to celebrate and develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of the diverse cultures of the world.In 2019-2020, LOTUS served over 5,321 people. LOTUS produced performances and events which attracted a total of 1,082 attendees and online viewers. LOTUS artists participated in 28 events that were presented by other organizations. These workshops and performances reached a combined audience of approximately 4,239 people. This number includes 14 programs in eight public schools, reaching approximately 2,055 school children. Our audiences represent virtually every ethnic community in New York City as well as dance aficionados and scholars of Asian, African, Hispanic and Native American culture. Major LOTUS events in 2019-2020 included Lotus produced performances such as World Dance Festival: Dancing Across Cultural Borders at Manhattan Movement Arts Center,supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, World Dance Passport: Travel the World Through Dance funded by the New York City Councils Cultural Immigrant Initiative and the Eighteenth Annual Drums Along the Hudson: A Native American and Multicultural Celebration, in collaboration with the NYC Park Department.Due to the COVID 19 shutdown in March 2020 all in-person events including World Dance Passport and Drums along the Hudson were cancelled and switched to online presentations.For Drums along the Hudson, a video retrospective of the past 17 years was presented along with our honaree, Poet Laureate of the US, Joe Harjo. In celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Women's Right to Vote, we presented all women performing groups featuring Soles of Duende, a trio of Kathak, Tap and Flamenco. The Retrospective lauched on June 20th on our website and made available until December 31st,2020. It included over 60 native dancers in full regalia who danced to the resounding host drums of Heyna Second Sons and Silver Cloud. Some of the groups featured included the Haudenosaunee Onondaga Singers and Dancers, Kapulli Huehuetlahtolli Aztec Dancers & Drummers, Parijat Desai Dance in the Round, Dancing Crane Georgian DanceTheater, Flamenco y Sol, Kinding Sindaw Filipino Tribal Dance, the Thunderbird American Indian Dancers, Mohawk Elder Tom Porter, New Zealand's Kharungi Maori Dancers, Bermudan Gombey Dancers, Dharmaswara Balinese Gamelan and Dancers, and numerous others.Lotus's programs gave over 133 artists opportunities to present thier art throughout the year, including on television. QPTV's Fade to Black, a program distributed to households across Queens featured Drums Along the Hudson 2019, World Dance Passport and World Dance Festival. Lotus strives to be truly global in outlook and has been of special service to under-represented groups in a way unmatched by other cultural organizations.
