Organizations Filed Purposes: THE MISSION OF THE MUSEUM OF AMERICAN FINANCE IS TO CREATE PUBLIC BENEFIT THROUGH THE ACQUISITION, PRESERVATION AND DISPLAY OF FINANCIAL OBJECTS AND INFORMATION, SHOWCASING THE BREADTH, IMPORTANCE AND RICHNESS OF AMERICAN FINANCIAL HISTORY AND PROVIDING A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF FINANCIAL MARKETS AND THE NATION'S ECONOMY.

THE MUSEUM HAS A COMBINATION OF PERMANENT AND CHANGING EXHIBITS THAT FOCUS ON ASPECTS OF THE WORLD OF FINANCE. ONE MAJOR EXHIBIT PRESENTS THE FINANCIAL MARKETS- SEPARATE MEDIA TOWERS ON THE STOCK MARKET, THE BOND MARKET AND COMMODITIES. THE EXHIBIT ON BANKING INCLUDES A SECTION ON THE HISTORY OF THE CENTRAL BANK. THE "MONEY" GALLERY DEPICTS THE HISTORY OF CURRENCY IN NORTH AMERICA OVER THE PAST 400 YEARS, FROM A BEAVER PELT AND WAMPUM TO THE $1,000 BILL. WE ALSO HAVE A GALLERY DEVOTED TO ALEXANDER HAMILTON, THE FIRST SECRETARY OF THE TREASURY, WHO ESTABLISHED THE NATIONAL DEBT TO PAY FOR THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR. IN 2008 WE OPENED A CHANGING EXHIBIT ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF STOCK TRADING, ENTITLED "TRADING ON THE STREET." IT INCLUDED THE ORIGINAL BUTTONWOOD AGREEMENT FROM 1792 - THE FIRST AGREEMENT BETWEEN TRADERS THAT FOUNDED THE NYSE.

COLLECTION AND EXHIBITION PROGRAMSIN 2018, THE MUSEUM VACATED ITS FORMER BUILDING AT 48 WALL STREET DUE TO A FLOOD IN ITS SPACE IN JANUARY 2018. NONE OF THE COLLECTIONS WERE DAMAGED, AND THE 10,000+ OBJECTS IN ITS CARE WERE IMMEDIATELY MOVED TO A CLIMATE-CONTROLLED ART STORAGE FACILITY IN QUEENS, NEW YORK. SINCE THEN, THE MUSEUM HAS INSTALLED TEMPORARY DISPLAYS AND EXHIBITS IN A VARIETY OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SPACES IN NEW YORK CITY AND BEYOND. IN 2019, THE LARGEST OF THESE WAS A LARGE TOUCHSCREEN VERSION OF THE "AMERICA IN CIRCULATION: A HISTORY OF US CURRENCY" EXHIBIT, WHICH WAS INSTALLED IN PAYPAL LOCATIONS IN NEW YORK CITY AND SAN JOSE, CA. SEVERAL OBJECTS FROM THE MUSEUM'S FINANCIAL TECHNOLOGY COLLECTION WERE EXHIBITED IN CHICAGO IN 2019 AS WELL.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND EDUCATIONIN 2008, THE MUSEUM INTRODUCED AN EVENING LECTURE/SYMPOSIA SERIES ON FINANCIAL HISTORY AND PRACTICES, WHICH HAS BECOME AN INVALUABLE RESOURCE ON WALL STREET. THE SERIES TACKLES TIMELY CONTEMPORARY ISSUES AND ENRICHING HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVES, AND IT HAS ESTABLISHED A POSITION IN THE FOREFRONT OF AMERICAN FINANCIAL DISCOURSE. OVER THE PAST 10 YEARS, THE EVENING LECTURE SERIES HAS BECOME RECOGNIZED AS A RESPECTED FORUM FOR LEARNING MORE ABOUT THE WORLD OF FINANCE AND GAINING EXPOSURE TO LEADERS IN THE FIELD. MANY NOTABLE EXPERTS IN FINANCE PARTICIPATE IN THIS SERIES EACH YEAR. SPEAKERS HAVE INCLUDED FORMER TREASURY SECRETARIES AND NOBEL LAUREATES, AS WELL AS HEADS OF EXCHANGES AND MAJOR US COMPANIES. THE 2019 SEASON FEATURED NINE PROGRAMS WITH SUCH NOTABLE SPEAKERS AS NOBEL LAUREATE JOSEPH STIGLITZ, NYSE PRESIDENT STACEY CUNNINGHAM, RENOWNED JOURNALISTS JIM GRANT AND STEVE FORBES, AS WELL AS A PANEL DISCUSSION ON "CORPORATE SUSTAINABILITY: IS IT SUSTAINABLE?" AUDIENCE MEMBERS INCLUDE INDIVIDUALS FROM ACROSS THE SPECTRUM OF THE FINANCIAL INDUSTRY, BUT INTERESTED PROFESSIONALS FROM ALL FIELDS ALSO REGULARLY ATTEND, ALONG WITH ACADEMICS AND STUDENTS.BEGINNING IN JANUARY 2018, THESE PROGRAMS HAVE BEEN HELD IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE FORDHAM UNIVERSITY GABELLI CENTER FOR GLOBAL SECURITY ANALYSIS, EITHER AT THEIR LINCOLN CENTER CAMPUS OR THE UNIVERSITY CLUB. THE PROGRAMS IN THIS SERIES ATTRACT BETWEEN 150 AND 225 PEOPLE AND TAKE PLACE AT THE END OF THE WORK DAY. TALKS OR PANEL DISCUSSIONS ARE FOLLOWED BY RECEPTIONS.IN ADDITION TO ITS EVENING LECTURE SERIES, THE MUSEUM ALSO OFFERS 10-12 PROGRAMS PER YEAR IN ITS LUNCH & LEARN SERIES. THESE SMALLER EVENTS ARE TYPICALLY HELD ON THE 5TH FLOOR OF 48 WALL STREET AND FEATURE AUTHORS, JOURNALISTS AND HISTORIANS SPEAKING ON A VARIETY OF CURRENT AND HISTORICAL FINANCIAL TOPICS. APPROXIMATELY 30-50 PEOPLE ATTEND EACH OF THESE PROGRAMS, WHICH ARE HELD ON WEEKDAYS FROM 12:30-1:30 PM. ADDITIONAL PUBLIC PROGRAMMING INCLUDES WALKING TOURS, FILM SCREENINGS AND EXHIBIT OPENINGS.
