NEW WORKS PROGRAMS Festival of New Musicals: Our most highly attended event, our annual Festival showcases 45-minute presentations of eight new musicals over two days for 800+ industry attendees. The 31st Annual Festival of New Musicals was held October 24 & 25, 2019 at New World Stages in New York City. NAMT assumes the costs of producing and marketing the Festival, handles all administration and logistics and takes no royalty stake in future productions. Since 1989, the Festival has introduced 260 new musicals and 491 writers to the industry, many of whom have found great subsequent success as a direct result of their Festival participation. NAMT is constantly working to allow more opportunities for writers to present their work to the field. In addition to the eight featured shows, the Festival also includes the Songwriters Showcase which gives four writing teams a chance to present their show-in-progress through song selections and a brief Q&A; and Midday Cabarets, an informal opportunity during the two lunch hours for four additional writing teams to share the range of their musical theatre work. Last year, NAMT also launched a new program entitled the Festival Observership for Early-Career Directors, aimed at increasing access and inclusivity Frank Young Fund for New Musicals (FYFNM, formerly the National Fund for New Musicals): Over the past year, the Frank Young Fund has awarded 22 grants totaling $75,000 to NAMT member not-for-profit theatres. Since its inception in 2008, the Fund has awarded 175 grants totaling $612,000 to support a wide variety of new work at every stage of development, from writer residencies to full productions, selected each year by a panel of experienced musical theatre professionals. Innovation & Exploration Fund (I&EF): NAMTs Innovation & Exploration Fund is designed to help NAMT member theatres pilot new capacity-building programs to advance their missions. Areas of exploration may include (but are not limited to) technology, accessibility, audience development, education and artistic innovation and advancement. Grant recipients must report the results of their funded programs to the rest of the membership, helping others who may be considering similar innovations. This past year, we received 28 letters of intent to apply before we were forced to postpone the granting period and applicant panel meetings due to stay-at-home orders issued during the COVID-19 pandemic. Grant recipient decisions are forthcoming upon social distancing regulations being lifted. MEMBERSHIP PROGRAMS Conferences: Both educational and inspiring, our national conferences are opportunities for member organizations to interact, collaborate and share ideas on the latest trends in musical theatre. The 2019 Fall Conference was in New York City on October 22 & 23, 2019 and was entitled New Paths to New Musicals. The Conference included panels on new musical development, community engagement, equity/diversity/inclusion, and more. The 2020 Spring Conference, entitled Greater Than the Sum of the Parts, was intended to be held March 26-27, 2020 hosted by The Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire, IL and Chicago Shakespeare Theater in Chicago, IL. The conference was unfortunately cancelled due to stay-at-home orders issued during the COVID-19 pandemic. This event would have convened marketing and development departments along with executive leadership of NAMT member organizations to discuss the full patron experience including ways to collaborate effectively to provide the best customer service for audience members and donors, in turn generating greater revenue and strong word-of-mouth for member theatres. Attendees were issued refunds on their registration fees, with some attendees choosing to contribute their registration fee back to NAMT as a donation. Webinars: NAMT continues to offer a Knowledge Exchange webinar series about best practices in the industry, which builds on discussions from our conferences and provides a forum for staff at all levels of our member organizations to share resources and exchange information. All NAMT webinars are archived on our website for continued member access. Toward the end of our fiscal year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic that prompted the cancellation of our 2020 Spring Conference, NAMT initiated a series of weekly web-based events including Knowledge Exchange webinars from expert panelists on a variety of urgent and relevant topics, virtual Town Hall-style membership meetings, and a wide range of virtual training sessions intended to allow NAMT members opportunities to communicate, share resources with one another and have access to expert advice from NAMTs vast network of members. This expansion of online programming began on March 19 , 2020 with NAMTs first virtual Town Hall, and presentations will be ongoing, at least until social distancing regulations are lifted and in-person theatre is again feasible. NAMT News & Notes and New Works News: NAMT News & Notes provides topical industry information to all members and Festival alumni writers, and New Works News highlights future readings and productions of new musicals around the country. Each is sent monthly via email. Website: Completely re-designed in FY 15, NAMT's website, www.namt.org, is our primary communication tool that includes links to members sites, Festival information, updates on NAMT programs and the NAMT blog. The Members Only section offers searchable information about theatres, productions and Festival writers, as well as members-only discounts. The website also includes our Set & Costume Registry, through which members can earn revenue by renting sets, costumes, props and orchestrations and which (in non-pandemic times) is among the most heavily trafficked areas of the website. Last fiscal year, NAMT launched the Theatre Experience and Collaboration Hub (The TECH), an online resource center offering opportunities for members to connect with and learn from their peers without leaving their desks, accessible via the NAMT website. NAMT then expanded this resource center to include the New Musicals Map, an interactive tool that allows members to keep abreast of new musical development happening all over the world, and the Innovation & Exploration Guide, a compilation of case studies, videos and grant reports outlining valuable lessons and best practices from NAMT members and other experts. Research Services: NAMT conducts industry surveys on subjects such as salaries, benefits and royalties, and shares the findings with our members.

ALUMNI & MEMBER EVENTS New Works Roundtable: This fiscal year's New Works Roundtable, entitled "New or Known Content: Excellence Across the New Musical Development Spectrum," was hosted by Goodspeed Musicals in East Haddam, CT on August 14, 2019. Representatives from theatres across the country came to discuss ideas for how a new musical can achieve both artistic excellence and commercial viability, and the tensions that may arise at the intersection of these two goals. Writers' Roundtable: This years Writers Roundtable was held on March 6, 2020 at The Dramatists Guild Foundation in midtown Manhattan and was titled Making the Most of Your Resources: When, What and Who? NAMT alumni writers and producers from NAMT member organizations discussed resources to invest in throughout the various stages of new musical development; what creative approaches can be taken to overcome common resource-based challenges; and what support non-profit, academic and commercial partners can provide to writers as they search for solutions.
