Media Content Program Development:Black Public Media (BPM) provides production funding to independent producers and acquires completed programs for distribution to various public media outlets (PBS, American Public Television, WGBH/World), and produces its own award winning public television series AfroPop: The Ultimate Cultural Exchange. BPM launched its third iteration of its 360 Incubator+ program, a three month professional development program culminating in a project pitch to industry professionals at BPMs PitchBLACK Forum. BPM provided R&D and completion funding for over 15 new documentary, non-fiction and short media programs.

Digital Media Program Development:Through its digital media initiatives, BPM provides funding to independent producers creating web based media such as PoPs & Read Awakeningand acquires completed short programs for distribution on PBS.org. In 2018 BPM launched an emerging media initiative focused on expanding BPMs support for content made and distributed for Virtual Reality & Augmented Reality projects.

Outreach and Engagement:Through its outreach and engagement initiatives, NBPC has connected public media content with underserved communities, provided professional development training to independent producers committed to bringing relevant public media to underserved audiences, and developed discussion guides and toolkits that further engage audiences with content we produce. NBPC funded outreach and engagement activities for Black Women in Medicine a documentary highlighting the achievements of black female doctors. NBPC partners with public libraries, public schools, colleges and universities, the NY Parks Service, cultural institutions, and community organizations to screen and promote select content from the AfroPop series and NBPC funded programs. NBPC staff also participated in workshops and on panels to promote NBPC content and attract new and emerging producers to apply for public media funding and/or submit new content.
