NEW DESTINY CREATES LONG-TERM SECURITY AND STABILITY FOR LOW-INCOME FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS AT RISK OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND HOMELESSNESS.
NEW DESTINY PROVIDES PERMANENT HOUSING AND SERVICES FOR HOMELESS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SURVIVORS AND OTHER LOW-INCOME FAMILIES.
IN FY 2020 NEW DESTINY OPERATED TWO DIRECT SERVICE PROGRAMS THE FAMILY SUPPORT PROGRAM AND HOUSINGLINK- AND ONE INFORMATION/TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM THE ONLINE HOUSING RESOURCE CENTER.THE FAMILY SUPPORT PROGRAM PROVIDES VOLUNTARY ON-SITE SERVICES AT NEW DESTINY'S PERMANENT HOUSING TO PROMOTE HOUSING RETENTION, PREVENT THE RECURRENCE OF VIOLENCE, AND IMPROVE THE WELL-BEING AND ECONOMIC HEALTH OF TENANTS. ON-SITE SERVICES INCLUDE SAFETY PLANNING, BENEFITS MANAGEMENT AND COUNSELING, FINANCIAL COUNSELING, AND JOB READINESS. LEGAL, HEALTH, AND JOB TRAINING SERVICES ARE PROVIDED THROUGH LINKAGE AGREEMENTS WITH LOCAL AND CITYWIDE PARTNERS. HOUSINGLINK PROVIDES TRAINING ABOUT PERMANENT HOUSING TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SURVIVORS AND THEIR ADVOCATES. IT ALSO REFERS APPLICANTS TO VACANT UNITS IN AFFORDABLE HOUSING OWNED BY PARTNERS, PROVIDES SHORT-TERM FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, AND WRAP AROUND SERVICES TO PLACED CLIENTS FOR UP TO TWO YEARS. THE HOUSING RESOURCE CENTER OFFERS COMPREHENSIVE, ACCURATE INFORMATION ABOUT HOUSING RESOURCES AND HOW TO OBTAIN THEM FOR LOW-INCOME DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SURVIVORS. IN FY 2020 OVER 160,000 UNIQUE VISITORS USED THE CENTER.
NEW DESTINY DEVELOPS AND OPERATES HOUSING FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SURVIVORS AND OTHER LOW-INCOME HOUSEHOLDS. THE CURRENT PORTFOLIO CONSISTS OF 9 AFFORDABLE RENTAL PROJECTS CONTAINING 272 UNITS, AT LEAST HALF OF WHICH ARE ALLOCATED TO HOMELESS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SURVIVORS, LOCATED IN THE BRONX, MANHATTAN AND BROOKLYN. IN FY 2020 NEW DESTINY COMPLETED A 41-UNIT BUILDING, MADE SUBSTANTIAL PROGRESS ON THE CONSTRUCTION OF 62-UNIT PROJECT AND BEGAN THE PROCESS OF CONVERTING A CURRENTLY VACANT BUILDING OWNED BY AN AFFILIATE INTO THE PERMANENT AFFORDABLE HOUSING. ADDITIONALLY, IN FY 2020, NEW DESTINY'S JOINT VENTURES WITH PRIVATE DEVELOPERS IN BROOKLYN AND QUEENS CONTINUED TO PROGRESS DESPITE THE PANDEMIC AND BOTH ARE ON TRACK TO OPEN IN 2021. THESE PROJECTS WILL YIELD AN ADDITIONAL 146 AFFORDABLE APARTMENTS FOR HOUSEHOLDS HEADED BY SURVIVORS COMING DIRECTLY FROM HOMELESS SHELTERS.
