DEDICATED TO MAKING THE ARTS ACCESSIBLE TO THE BROADEST POSSIBLE AUDIENCE, CITY CENTER SEEKS TO CREATE A WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT AND ENGAGE AUDIENCES WITH INSPIRING PROGRAMMING THAT REFLECTS THE ECLECTICISM, ENERGY AND SPIRIT OF NEW YORK CITY.

PRODUCTIONS & PROGRAMMINGIN OUR 2019-20 SEASON, NEW YORK CITY CENTER WELCOMED RENOWNED DANCE COMPANY ALVIN AILEY AMERICAN DANCE THEATER TO THE MAINSTAGE FOR THEIR ANNUAL SEASON. CITY CENTER PRESENTED MATTHEW BOURNE'S GROUNDBREAKING PRODUCTION OF SWAN LAKE BACK TO OUR STAGE FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2010 TO NEARLY SOLD-OUT CROWDS. NEDERLANDS DANS THEATER CELEBRATED THEIR 60TH ANNIVERSARY AT CITY CENTER WITH THREE U.S. PREMIERES. CITY CENTER'S ENCORES! KEEPS THE BROADWAY MUSICAL, OUR COUNTRY'S GREATEST ORIGINAL ART FORM, VIBRANTLY ALIVE FOR TODAY'S AUDIENCES WITH THE EXTRAORDINARY, GENRE-DEFINING SCORES TAKING CENTER STAGE. ITS SIBLING SERIES ENCORES! OFF-CENTER WAS CREATED TO BROADEN THE SCOPE AND ACCESSIBILITY OF CITY CENTER'S MUSICAL THEATER PROGRAMMING THROUGH THE CUTTING EDGE SHOWS OF EARLY OFF-BROADWAY, AND BY OFFERING UP TO 40% OF ALL TICKETS EACH SEASON FOR JUST $25. IN ORDER TO PROTECT OUR AUDIENCES AND ARTISTS FROM THE SPREAD OF COVID-19, WE CLOSED OUR THEATER IN MARCH, WHICH MEANT THE CANCELLATION OF TWO OF OUR THREE ENCORES! SHOWS FOR THE SEASON AS WELL AS OUR 2020 SUMMER ENCORES! OFF-CENTER SERIES. PRIOR TO OUR CLOSURE, HOWEVER, WE WERE PROUD TO WELCOME 36,198 AUDIENCE MEMBERS TO OUR GALA PRODUCTION OF EVITA AND OUR ENCORES! REVIVAL OF MACK & MABEL.THE 2019 FALL FOR DANCE FESTIVAL RAN FROM OCTOBER 1, 2019 AND FEATURED 20 ARTISTS AND COMPANIES FROM ACROSS THE UNITED STATES AND AROUND THE GLOBE IN FIVE UNIQUE PROGRAMS. THE DIVERSE LINE-UP SPANNED THE BREADTH AND SCOPE OF DANCE STYLES AND TRADITIONS. VISITING ARTISTS HAILED FROM 10 COUNTRIES, INCLUDING THE UNITED KINGDOM, ARGENTINA, SOUTH AFRICA, AND RUSSIA. ACCESS AND ENGAGEMENT REMAINED AT THE FOREFRONT OF FALL FOR DANCE. WITH ALL FESTIVAL TICKETS PRICED AT JUST $15, WE WELCOMED 22,215 AUDIENCE MEMBERS FOR 10 PERFORMANCES. TICKET HOLDERS WERE INVITED TO DEEPEN THEIR EXPERIENCE AT FREE PRE-SHOW DANCE LESSONS WITH FESTIVAL ARTISTS. AUDIENCE SURVEYS DISPLAYED THE FESTIVAL'S SUCCESS IN BUILDING YOUNG AND DIVERSE AUDIENCES FOR THE DANCE FIELD AND FOR CITY CENTER: 38% OF RESPONDENTS WERE UNDER THE AGE OF 35; 25% HAD HOUSEHOLD INCOMES UNDER $50,000 A YEAR; AND 36% IDENTIFIED AS PEOPLE OF COLOR. ARTISTS PERFORMING ON ALL STAGES HAD ACCESS TO 24/7 TICKETING SUPPORT VIA CITY CENTER'S BOX OFFICE, THE CITYTIX PHONE TICKETING SERVICE AND CITY CENTER'S WEBSITE (WWW.NYCITYCENTER.ORG).

STAGE I & II MANHATTAN THEATRE CLUB PRESENTED SEVERAL SHOWS ON CITY CENTER'S STAGES I AND II, INCLUDING THE NEW YORK PREMIERE OF HARVEY FIERSTEIN'S LATEST ONE-MAN SHOW, BELLA BELLA.

EDUCATIONCITY CENTER'S COMMITMENT TO ACCESSIBILITY CONTINUED TO EXTEND THROUGHOUT OUR COMMUNITY IN OUR 2019-20 SEASON WITH PROGRAMS THAT AIMED AT BRINGING THE ARTS TO NEW YORK CITY'S MOST MARGINALIZED SCHOOLS; OFFERED EDUCATORS THE TOOLS TO INCORPORATE ARTS INTO THEIR CURRICULUM; AND PROVIDED CRUCIAL CAREER-READINESS OPPORTUNITIES IN THE CULTURAL SECTOR. THIS SEASON CITY CENTER CONNECTED OVER 7,000 STUDENTS AND EDUCATORS WITH A HIGH-QUALITY ROBUST ARTS CURRICULUM BOTH AT OUR THEATER WITH STUDENT MATINEES, AND IN THE CLASSROOM THROUGH WORKSHOPS AND RESIDENCIES. FOLLOWING THE CLOSURE OF NYC SCHOOLS IN MARCH, WE QUICKLY PIVOTED TO PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS AND PROGRAMMING DIGITALLY TO OUR SCHOOL PARTNERS TO HELP THEM THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.
