NYCRM serves as a hub for basic needs and emergency services for those experiencing homelessness.
In 2017, New York City Rescue Mission became a controlled affiliate of The Bowery Mission, the nation's oldest rescue mission serving those experiencing homelessness in New York City since the 1870s. This allowed two formerly independent rescue missions to make more efficient use of resources and provide an enhanced continuum of care. In fiscal year 2019, New York City Rescue Mission's campus at 90 Lafayette St. in Tribeca continued to serve as a hub for providing basic needs services. Between October 1, 2018 and September 30, 2019, its 194-bed overnight shelter maintained nearly full capacity every night of the week, providing more than 3,000 unique guests with hospitable accomodations and compassionate basic needs services. A total of 157,912 meals, 66,488 nights of emergency overnight shelter, and 10,846 articles of clothing were provided to New Yorkers in crisis over the course of the year.
