NEW YORK FOUNDATION FOR SENIOR CITIZENS IS DEDICATED TO HELPING NEW YORK'S SENIORS ENJOY HEALTHIER, SAFER, MORE PRODUCTIVE AND DIGNIFIED LIVES IN THEIR OWN HOMES AND COMMUNITIES AND TO HELP THEM AVOID THE NEED FOR PREMATURE INSTITUTIONALIZATION. ESTABLISHED IN 1968, THE FOUNDATION IS THE ONLY NON-PROFIT, NON-SECTARIAN ORGANIZATION SERVING NEW YORK'S SENIORS IN ALL FIVE BOROUGHS. OVER THE PAST FOUR DECADES, THE AGENCY HAS GROWN FROM TWO EMPLOYEES AND NO FUNDS FOR THE PROVISION OF DIRECT SOCIAL SERVICES TO NEW YORK CITY'S ONLY NON-PROFIT, NON-SECTARIAN AGENCY, WITH OVER 1,200 EMPLOYEES. THE FOUNDATION NOW PROVIDES OVER 800 UNITS OF HOUSING AND 35 PROFESSIONALLY ADMINISTERED SOCIAL SERVICE PROGRAMS FOR TENS OF THOUSANDS OF ELDERLY NEW YORKERS CITY-WIDE ANNUALLY. THESE INNOVATIVE PROJECTS SERVE AS MODELS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SIMILAR SERVICES FOR THE ELDERLY THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. WE'RE ALWAYS EAGER TO UNDERTAKE INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS THAT BENEFIT THE SENIOR POPULATION.
IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR THE ELDERLY.
THE ENRICHED HOUSING PROGRAM PROVIDES AN APARTMENT-BASED LIFESTYLE FOR FRAIL AND HANDICAPPED SENIORS, COMPLETE WITH THE SPECIALIZED SERVICES THAT MANY REQUIRE IN SEVEN BUILDINGS. ENRICHED HOUSING SERVICES INCLUDE ASSISTANCE WITH PERSONAL CARE, SHOPPING, MEAL PREPARATION, AND WITH MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS AND OTHER PERSONAL NEEDS. THE STAFF ORGANIZES VARIOUS SOCIAL AND RECREATIONAL SERVICES. THE FOUNDATION'S SEVEN ENRICHED HOUSING PROGRAMS ARE SUCCESSFULLY SERVING UP TO 305 RESIDENTS.
BETWEEN JULY 1, 2019 AND JUNE 30, 2020, LONG TERM CASE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM PROVIDED CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES TO 2,859 FRAIL ELDERLY RESIDENTS OF COMMUNITY DISTRICTS #1, #2, #3, #5 AND #6, INCLUDING 1,087 CAUCASIAN, 350 AFRICAN AMERICAN, 526 HISPANIC, 338 ASIAN, AND 558 OF OTHER/UNKNOWN ETHNICITIES. IN ADDITION, SHORT TERM COUNSELING, INTAKE SCREENING, INFORMATION AND REFERRAL SERVICES WERE PROVIDED FOR 4,683 ELDERLY PERSONS AND THEIR FAMILIES, INCLUDING 1,937 CAUCASIAN, 525 AFRICAN AMERICAN, 831 HISPANIC, 413 ASIAN AND 977 CLIENTS WITH OTHER/UNKNOWN ETHNICITIES. BETWEEN JULY 1, 2020 AND OCTOBER 31, 2020, LONG TERM CASE MANAGEMENT WAS PROVIDED TO 2,001 FRAIL ELDERLY RESIDENTS OF COMMUNITY DISTRICTS #1, #2, #3, #5 AND #6, INCLUDING 822 CAUCASIANS, 192 AFRICAN-AMERICANS, 384 HISPANICS, 275 ASIANS AND 328 CLIENTS WITH OTHER/UNKNOWN ETHNICITIES. DURING THAT SAME PERIOD, SHORT TERM COUNSELING, INTAKE SCREENING, INFORMATION AND REFERRAL SERVICES WERE PROVIDED TO 2,656 ELDERLY PERSONS AND THEIR FAMILIES, INCLUDING 1,077 CAUCASIANS, 315 AFRICAN-AMERICANS, 412 HISPANICS, 303 ASIANS AND 549 CLIENTS WITH UNKNOWN ETHNICITIES.
THE FOUNDATION SPONSORS THREE SENIOR CENTERS THAT PROVIDE MEALS, HEALTH AND WELLNESS, RECREATION AND SOCIALIZATION ACTIVITIES, AS WELL AS, CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES FOR THEIR MEMBERS.LAGUARDIA SENIOR CENTER CONTINUES TO BE SUCCESSFUL. UNDER THE FOUNDATION'S SPONSORSHIP, THE CENTER'S MEMBERSHIP INCREASED TO 7666 BETWEEN JULY 1, 2019 TO JUNE 30, 2020, OF WHICH 1212 HAVE BEEN ACTIVE AND 95% ARE OF CHINESE DESCENT. PRIOR TO CONGREGATE MEALS BEING CURTAILED DUE TO THE COVID PANDEMIC, THE BUDGET PROVIDED FOR 165 BREAKFASTS AND 156 LUNCHES AND THE CENTER WAS SERVING AN AVERAGE OF 168 BREAKFASTS AND 180 LUNCHES PER DAY. AS A RESULT OF THE CENTER'S OUTREACH ENDEAVORS, 23 NEW MEMBERS WERE RECRUITED AND REGISTERED BETWEEN JULY 1, 2020 AND OCTOBER 31, 2020. THE CENTER'S MEMBERSHIP WILL HOLD A VIRTUAL THANKSGIVING LUNCHEON ON NOVEMBER 30, 2020 AND A VIRTUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY ON DECEMBER 22, 2020.DYCKMAN SENIOR CENTER'S MEMBERSHIP HAS INCREASED TO 7440 BETWEEN JULY 1, 2019 AND JUNE 30, 2020 UNDER THE FOUNDATION'S SPONSORSHIP, OF WHICH 703 ARE CURRENTLY ACTIVE. PRIOR TO CONGREGATE MEALS BEING CURTAILED DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, THE BUDGET PROVIDES FOR 33 BREAKFASTS AND 83 LUNCHES, AND THE CENTER WAS SERVING 34 BREAKFASTS AND 65 LUNCHES PER DAY. THE CENTER HAS BEEN REMOTELY AND VIRTUALLY PROVIDING MANY ACTIVITIES AND HOLIDAY PARTIES THROUGHOUT THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. THE CENTER HELD A FESTIVE VIRTUAL HALLOWEEN PARTY ON OCTOBER 30, 2020 DURING WHICH THEY SHARED THEIR FAVORITE SCARY STORIES. THE MEMBERSHIP WILL REMOTELY AND VIRTUALLY HOLD A THANKSGIVING CELEBRATION ON NOVEMBER 25, 2020 AND A CHRISTMAS PARTY ON DECEMBER 24, 2020.MOTT STREET SENIOR CENTER'S MEMBERSHIP HAS INCREASED FROM 403 ON SEPTEMBER 1, 2000, WHEN THE FOUNDATION ASSUMED SPONSORSHIP TO 6080, OF WHICH 939 HAVE BEEN ACTIVE BETWEEN JULY 1, 2020 AND OCTOBER 31, 2020. PRIOR TO CONGREGATE MEALS BEING CURTAILED DUE TO THE COVID PANDEMIC, THE BUDGET PROVIDES FOR 72 BREAKFASTS AND 140 LUNCHES AND THE CENTER WAS SERVING 71 BREAKFASTS AND 137 LUNCHES PER DAY. DURING JANUARY AND FEBRUARY 2020, THE MEMBERS TOOK FOUNDATION PROJECT CART VAN RIDES TO AND FROM THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART AND THE CENTER'S CHINESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATION. THE CENTER'S MEMBERS WILL HOLD A VIRTUAL THANKSGIVING LUNCHEON ON NOVEMBER 25, 2020 AND A CHRISTMAS PARTY ON DECEMBER 24, 2020.
