WORKING THROUGHOUT THE EASTERN UNITED STATES, OSILT ACQUIRES LAND OF ECOLOGICAL, RECREATIONAL, AND CLIMATE SAVING SIGNIFICANCE, WITH THE GOAL OF CONVEYING IT TO FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS AND CONSERVATION ORGANIZATIONS AS PERMANENT ADDITIONS TO PUBLICLY ACCESSIBLE LANDS. IN 2019, OSILT PROTECTED OVER 26,400 ACRES OF LAND HAVING A FAIR MARKET VALUE OF OVER $44.6 MILLION.
CONSERVATION CAPITAL PROGRAM (CCP): GUIDED BY SCIENCE, WITH A PARTICULAR FOCUS ON CLIMATE CHANGE, WATER PROTECTION, FORESTS, AND WILDLIFE HABITAT, OSI'S CCP PROGRAM WORKS CLOSELY WITH FOUNDATIONS TO DESIGN AND ADMINISTER CAPITAL REGRANT PROGRAMS, AND WITH LOCAL AND REGIONAL LAND TRUSTS TO STRUCTURE AND IMPLEMENT SUCCESSFUL TRANSACTIONS. USING OBJECTIVE CRITERIA AND EXTERNAL ADVISERS, OSI WORKS TO DIRECT CAPITAL TO A MIX OF LARGE, SMALL, NATIONAL, AND REGIONAL LAND CONSERVATION ORGANIZATIONS WORKING TO PERMANENTLY PROTECT OPEN SPACE. IN 2019 OSILT MADE 14 GRANTS TOTALING $4.7 MILLION TO CONSERVATION ORGANIZATIONS ENABLING THEM TO PROTECT OVER 17,000 ACRES OF LAND.
PARKS AND STEWARDSHIP: OSILT SEEKS TO MAKE THE OUTDOORS MORE WELCOMING AND ENJOYABLE FOR LONG-TIME VISITORS AND NEW EXPLORERS ALIKE. GREAT PARKS AND TRAILS OFFER SANCTUARY IN OUR BUSY LIVES; ARE VITAL RECREATIONAL, CULTURAL AND ECONOMIC DESTINATIONS; AND HELP FOSTER THE NEXT GENERATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDS. THROUGH ITS PARKS AND STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM, OSILT MAKES PARKS AND TRAILS MORE ACCESSIBLE AND APPEALING; CHAMPIONS INCREASED STATE AND FEDERAL PUBLIC INVESTMENT; RAISES PRIVATE DOLLARS TO LEVERAGE THAT INVESTMENT; AND BRINGS KNOW-HOW TO MAKE PARK IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS MORE ENGAGING FOR VISITORS. PAST SUCCESSES INCLUDE THE DESIGN, FUNDING, AND DEVELOPMENT OF VISITOR CENTERS, TRAILS, TRAILHEADS, CARRIAGE ROADS, PARKING AREAS AND OTHER PUBLIC AMENITIES AIMED AT ENHANCING ENJOYMENT OF PUBLIC LANDS.
