Organizations Filed Purposes: ORPHEUS CHAMBER ORCHESTRA CREATES EXTRAORDINARY MUSICAL EXPERIENCES THAT ENRICH LIVES AND EMPOWER INDIVIDUALS THROUGH COLLABORATION, EDUCATION, INNOVATION, AND A PASSION FOR ARTISTIC EXCELLENCE. ORPHEUS STRIVES TO BE THE WORLD'S PREMIER CHAMBER ORCHESTRA BY PERFORMING MUSIC AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL, CHALLENGING ARTISTIC BOUNDARIES, INSPIRING THE PUBLIC TO THINK AND WORK WITH NEW PERSPECTIVES, AND BUILDING A BROAD AND ACTIVE AUDIENCE IN NEW YORK CITY AND AROUND THE WORLD.

To create extraordinary musical experiences that enrich lives and empower individuals through collabo- ration, education, innovation, and a passion for artistic excellence.

FOR OVER 40 YEARS, ORPHEUS HAS SERVED A LOYAL AND GENEROUS AUDIENCE IN ITS HOMETOWN OF NEW YORK CITY, PRESENTING ITS ANNUAL SERIES AT CARNEGIE HALL. DURING THE 47TH SEASON IN 2019-2020, ORPHEUS PRESENTED TWO CARNEGIE HALL CONCERTS, COLLABORATING WITH GUEST SOLOISTS: PIANIST JAN LISIECKI AND VIOLINIST VADIM GLUZMAN, AND ORPHEUS' FIRST EVER ARTISTIC PARTNER: COMPOSER JESSIE MONTGOMERY. THE SERIES INCLUDED ONE NEW WORLD PREMIERE COMPOSED BY JESSIE MONTGOMERY, AND ONE NEW ARRANGEMENT BY MONTGOMERY AND JANNINA NORPOTH. IN ADDITION, ORPHEUS WAS PRESENTED AT TWO CONCERTS AT THE 92Y, INCLUDING ONE WITH VIOLINIST CAROLIN WIDMANN. DUE TO GOVERNMENT RESTRICTIONS AS A RESULT OF THE COVID-19 PADEMIC, TWO CONCERTS FROM THE CARNEGIE HALL SERIES AND ONE CONCERT AT THE 92Y WERE CANCELLED. PRIOR TO THE ONSET OF THE PANDEMIC RAVE REVIEWS FROM CRITICS AND HIGH TICKET SALES PROVED THE FIRST HALF OF THE SEASON TO BE VERY SUCCESSFUL. ORPHEUS IS COMMITTED TO SHARING ITS ARTISTIC PROGRAMMING WITH COMMUNITIES BEYOND NEW YORK CITY. IN 2019-2020, ORPHEUS TOURED WITHIN NEW YORK STATE AND TO PENNSYLVANIA AND FLORIDA. INTERNATIONALLY, THE ORCHESTRA VISITED CANADA AND GERMANY. ADDITIONAL CANCELLATIONS DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC INCLUDED APPEARANCES AT THE SHIFT FESTIVAL OF AMERICAN ORCHESTRAS AND CARAMOOR CENTER FOR MUSIC AND THE ARTS. THE ORCHESTRA'S RICH HISTORY OF TOURING INCLUDES VISITS TO MORE THAN 300 CITIES IN 50 COUNTRIES ON FOUR CONTINENTS. BY TOURING NATIONALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY, THE ORCHESTRA REMOVES NUMEROUS FINANCIAL AND GEOGRAPHIC OBSTACLES THAT PREVENT ACCESS FOR MANY TO EXPERIENCE THE DYNAMIC LIVE PERFORMANCES. IN THE 2019-20 SEASON, ORPHEUS SERVED OVER 20,000 AUDIENCE MEMBERS LIVE. ORPHEUS IS FORTUNATE TO MAINTAIN A GLOBAL PRESENCE, DEVELOPED THROUGH AN EXTENSIVE RECORDING CATALOGUE AND CURRENT RADIO BROADCASTS, THROUGH NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL TOURS. IN THIS WAY, THE ORCHESTRA BUILDS ON EXISTING PARTNERSHIPS AND REACHES NEW COMMUNITIES. DURING THE PANDEMIC, VIDEO RECORDINGS OF THE ORCHESTRA WERE FEATURED THROUGH ONE ONLINE MUSIC FESTIVAL IN SPRING 2020 AND RELEASED ON THE ORCHESTRA'S WEBSITE AND SOCIAL MEDIA CHANNELS AS A WEEKLY SERIES THROUGHOUT SUMMER 2020. THESE VIRTUAL PROGRAMS REACHED OVER 300,000 AUDIENCE MEMBERS ONLINE. ORPHEUS' COMMITMENT TO ENGAGEMENT INCLUDES FOUR CORE INITIATIVES. THE ACCESS ORPHEUS PROGRAM REACHES OVER 1,000 PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS FROM EACH OF NEW YORK CITY'S FIVE BOROUGHS AS WELL AS THE BROADER METROPOLITAN AREA, WITH PRIORITY GIVEN TO TITLE I SCHOOLS. STUDENTS ARE SERVED THROUGH IN-CLASS VISITS, OPEN REHEARSALS, AND UNDERWRITTEN TICKETS TO ORPHEUS' CARNEGIE HALL SERIES CONCERTS. FOR MANY, THIS IS THEIR FIRST EXPERIENCE OF A LIVE CLASSICAL MUSIC CONCERT AND THEIR FIRST TIME INSIDE CARNEGIE HALL. AFTER THE ONSET OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, ACCESS ORPHEUS PROGRAMS CONTINUED ONLINE INCLUDING A COMPOSITION WORKSHOP FOR FIFTH GRADE STUDENTS FROM WASHINGTON HEIGHTS LED BY ARTISTIC PARTNER, JESSIE MONTGOMERY. THE ORPHEUS MUSIC ACADEMY EMCOMPASSES ORPHEUS' PROGRAMS FOR INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED MUSIC STUDENTS. ORPHEUS MUSICIANS SHARE THEIR ARTISTRY, EXPERTISE, AND COLLABORATIVE APPROACH TO MUSIC MAKING THROUGH MASTERCLASSES WITH ORPHEUS MUSICIANS AND GUEST ARTISTS, SIDE-BY-SIDE WORKSHOPS, AND RESIDENCIES ON TOUR. ORPHEUS REFLECTIONS BRINGS THE HEALING POWER OF MUSIC TO PEOPLE LIVING WITH ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE AND OTHER FORMS OF DEMENTIA AND THEIR CAREGIVERS. ORPHEUS MUSICIANS SHARE INTIMATE PERFORMANCES AND ENGAGE WITH AUDIENCES IN SPACES WHERE ATTENDEES ARE COMFORTABLE, SUCH AS PUBLIC VENUES OR PRIVATE CARE CENTERS. THE PROGRAMS ALSO BENEFIT CAREGIVERS, WHO IN THEIR DEMANDING ROLES MAY HAVE LITTLE OPPORTUNITY TO ENJOY LIVE MUSIC. IN 2019-20 ORPHEUS BROUGHT REFLECTIONS TO CENTERS THROUGHOUT NEW YORK CITY. AFTER THE ONSET OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, REFLECTIONS PROGRAMS WERE OFFERED ONLINE OVER A VIDEO CONFERENCING PLATFORM. THE ORPHEUS LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE BRINGS THE ORPHEUS PROCESS TO THE PRIVATE AND NON-PROFIT SECTORS AND EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS TO EMPOWER THE LEADERS OF TOMORROW THROUGH COLLABORATIVE MANAGEMENT TRAINING. TEAMS OF ALL KINDS PARTICIPATE IN CUSTOMIZABLE PROGRAMS TO GAIN INSIGHT FROM ORPHEUS' DEMOCRATIC PROCESS AND DEVELOP ESSENTIAL SKILLS IN COMMUNICATION, COLLECTIVE OWNERSHIP, AND CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING.
