THE PARTNERSHIP FOR THE HOMELESS IS COMMITTED TO BUILDING A JUST AND EQUITABLE SOCIETY AND CREATING LASTING COMMUNITY CHANGE THROUGH SOLUTION-ORIENTED PROGRAMS AND POLICY INITIATIVES THAT WILL ELIMINATE THE ROOT CAUSES OF HOMELESSNESS.
TO ASSIST PEOPLE EXPERIENCING OR AT RISK OF EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS WITH HOUSING, MEDICAL, EMPLOYMENT AND EDUCATION NEEDS.
HEALTH AND EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING: THE ORGANIZATION ADDRESSES CLIENTS' CLINICAL AND EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING NEEDS TO PROMOTE LONG-TERM HOUSING AND LIFE STABILITY, WITH A GOAL OF PREVENTING CLIENTS FROM CYCLING IN AND OUT OF THE KINDS OF CRISES THAT OFTEN PRECEDE HOMELESSNESS. THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES SHORT-TERM IN-HOUSE CLINICAL SERVICES AND EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING SUPPORT, AND APPLIES A TRAUMA-INFORMED LENS ACROSS THE ORGANIZATION TO IDENTIFY CLIENTS IN NEED OF INTERVENTIONS. WE CONNECT LOW-INCOME NEW YORKERS TO THERAPEUTIC SERVICES, AND OFFER REFERRALS TO COMMUNITY PARTNERS FOR PRIMARY CARE AND LONG-TERM MENTAL HEALTH AND THERAPEUTIC COUNSELING SERVICES. WE SUPPORT CLIENTS LIVING WITH HIV/AIDS TO INCREASE THEIR HEALTH EDUCATION AND TAKE CONTROL OF THEIR TREATMENT. APPROXIMATELY 6,500 NEW YORKERS RECEIVED ONGOING STABILIZING SUPPORT SERVICES IN FISCAL YEAR 2020, FROM CLINICAL CASEWORK AND MENTAL HEALTH AND EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING INTERVENTIONS TO BASIC NECESSITIES LIKE FURNITURE, CLOTHING, AND TOILETRIES.
HOUSING & CRISIS: THE ORGANIZATION ADDRESSES IMMEDIATE HOUSING AND CRISIS NEEDS FOR CLIENTS IN ALL FIVE BOROUGHS. OUR PROGRAMMING OFFERS RENTAL ASSISTANCE AND LANDLORD MEDIATION TO PREVENT THE IMMEDIATE LOSS OF HOME AND FUTURE HOMELESSNESS. WE REFER CLIENTS TO LEGAL ASSISTANCE, ADVOCATE TO PREVENT SOURCE OF INCOME DISCRIMINATION AND SUPPORT VOUCHER-BASED HOUSING PLACEMENT. LIKEWISE, WE OFFER COMPREHENSIVE BENEFITS ANALYSIS AND CONNECT CLIENTS TO INCOME SUPPORT SERVICES THROUGH GOVERNMENT AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS. FOR THOSE WHO NEED IT, WE PARTNER WITH LOCAL SOUP KITCHENS/FOOD PANTRIES AND FEMA TO OFFER EMERGENCY FOOD SUPPORT. IN FY'20, 8,000 NEW YORKERS RECEIVED HOUSING AND EMERGENCY SERVICES TO STAVE OFF EVICTIONS AND SECURE THEIR EXISTING HOMES, AND 35,000 MEALS WERE PROVIDED TO INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN NEED.
EDUCATION: THE ORGANIZATION DISRUPTS THE GENERATIONAL CYCLE OF HOMELESSNESS BY ENSURING CHILDREN HAVE CONTINUOUS ACCESS TO SCHOOL, EVEN AS THEY AND THEIR FAMILIES ARE LIVING IN SHELTERS OR ARE IMMINENTLY AT RISK OF EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS. THE ORGANIZATION ENGAGES PARTNERS TO ENSURE THAT THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN RECEIVE ADVOCACY SUPPORT TO SAFEGUARD AND PROMOTE THEIR RIGHTS TO QUALITY EDUCATION. WE ALSO SUPPORT FAMILIES AS THEY NAVIGATE ISSUES PERTAINING TO THEIR CHILD'S EDUCATION, INCLUDING ADVOCATING WITH LEGAL PARTNERS TO ENSURE THAT CHILDREN ARE PLACED IN SHELTERS NEAR THEIR SCHOOLS AND THAT THEIR EDUCATIONAL NEEDS ARE MET IN THE CLASSROOM. WE PARTNER WITH NYC SCHOOLS TO EXPLORE THE CONNECTION BETWEEN CHILDREN'S HIGH ABSENTEEISM AND THEIR FAMILIES' HOUSING INSTABILITY. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO LAUNCHED THE PARTNER FOR EDUCATION FUND THIS YEAR TO PREVENT FAMILIES FROM FALLING INTO HOMELESSNESS AND TO AVOID THE EDUCATIONAL DISRUPTIONS THAT LIE AT THE ROOT OF GENERATIONAL HOMELESSNESS. THIS YEAR 40,000+ CHILDREN AND PARENTS IN THE FAMILY SHELTER SYSTEM WERE IMPACTED BY OUR SCHOOLS ACCESS ADVOCACY PROJECT.
