(CONT'D ON SCHEDULE O)(CONT'D FROM PAGE 2) PROVIDE LEADERSHIP IN THE DEVELOPMENT AND DELIVERY OF SERVICES THAT ARE MARKED BY EXCELLENCE AND FLEXIBILITY AND ARE GROUNDED IN EVIDENCE-BASED TREATMENTS AND BEST PRACTICES. RAISE AWARENESS AND UNDERSTANDING OF AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS AND PROMOTE THE RIGHTS OF ALL INDIVIDUALS TO BE TREATED WITH DIGNITY AND RESPECT. ENSURE TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY TO ALL OF OUR STAKEHOLDERS FOR THE BEST USE OF RESOURCES.
QSAC IS A NEW YORK CITY AND LONG ISLAND BASED NONPROFIT THAT SUPPORTS CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH AUTISM, TOGETHER WITH THEIR FAMILIES, IN ACHIEVING GREATER INDEPENDENCE, REALIZING THEIR FUTURE POTENTIAL, AND CONTRIBUTING TO THEIR COMMUNITIES IN A MEANINGFUL WAY BY OFFERING PERSON-CENTERED SERVICES.
THE QSAC DAY HABILITATION PROGRAM IS A PERSON-CENTERED PROGRAM THAT HELPS DEVELOP INDIVIDUAL CHOICE AND THE SKILLS NECESSARY FOR PEOPLE TO LEARN TO BECOME ACTIVE AND PARTICIPATING MEMBERS OF THEIR OWN HOMES AND COMMUNITIES. EACH PARTICIPANT'S INDIVIDUAL FUNCTIONING LEVEL IS CONTINUALLY ASSESSED AND PROGRAMS AND GOALS ARE DEVELOPED THAT SUIT EVERY INDIVIDUALS NEEDS. INDIVIDUALS IN THE DAY HABILITATION PROGRAM WORK ON TARGETED GOALS SUCH AS ADAPTIVE LIVING, COMMUNICATION AND FOOD PREPARATION SKILLS AND THE ELIMINATION OF INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIORS . PART OF EACH INDIVIDUAL'S DAY IS SPENT IN THE COMMUNITY WHERE THEY DEVELOP A MORE PRODUCTIVE ROLE IN SOCIETY. THE DAY HABILITATION PROGRAM IS OPEN TO INDIVIDUALS 21 YEARS OF AGE OR OVER WHO ARE DIAGNOSED WITH AUTISM OR A DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITY. (CONT'D ON SCHEDULE O)(CONT'D FROM PAGE 2) THE PROGRAM OPERATES MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, YEAR ROUND, BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 8:30 AM TO 2:30 PM. SUPERVISED TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM THE PROGRAM IS PROVIDED. QSAC CONTINUED TO EXPAND THE DAY HABILITATION PROGRAM BY INCREASING CAPACITY AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT NYC AND LONG ISLAND IN FISCAL YEAR 2019/2020.
QSAC RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMS FEATURE BOTH INDIVIDUALIZED RESIDENTIAL ALTERNATIVES AND INTERMEDIATE CARE FACILITIES THAT OFFER HOME ENVIRONMENTS THAT FOSTER INDEPENDENCE, COMMUNITY INTEGRATION, INDIVIDUALIZATION AND PRODUCTIVITY. EACH INDIVIDUAL RESIDING IN A QSAC RESIDENCE IS PROVIDED WITH OPPORTUNITIES TO PARTICIPATE IN MEANINGFUL ADULT ROLES AND DEVELOP SOCIAL RELATIONSHIPS WHILE AT THE SAME TIME EMPHASIZING INDIVIDUAL CHOICE. EACH RESIDENT ENJOYS VARIOUS RECREATIONAL AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES ON A REGULAR BASIS AND IS ALSO INVOLVED IN EVERY FACET OF THE HOME ENVIRONMENT, INCLUDING COOKING THEIR OWN MEALS, SHOPPING FOR FOOD AND HOUSEHOLD SUPPLIES, AND DOING REGULAR HOUSEHOLD CHORES. (CONT'D ON SCHEDULE O) (CONT'D FROM PAGE 2) THE GOAL OF QSAC'S RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM IS TO CREATE A NURTURING ENVIRONMENT THAT PROMOTES PERSONAL GROWTH AND A SENSE OF DIGNITY IN EACH INDIVIDUAL. QSAC PROVIDES RESIDENTIAL SERVICES TO 196 INDIVIDUALS.
QSAC'S SCHOOL AND PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS PROVIDE CHILDREN 5 TO 21 YEARS AND 3 & 4 YEARS OF AGE WITH AN APPROPRIATE EDUCATION, IMPLEMENTED IN THE LAST RESTRICTIVE ENVIRONMENT. EACH STUDENT IN THE QSAC SCHOOLS RECEIVES INDIVIDUALIZED PROGRAMMING THAT IS DESIGNED AND IMPLEMENTED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE COMMITTEES ON SPECIAL EDUCATION, THE STUDENT'S FAMILY, THE STUDENT'S TEACHER, THERAPISTS, AND THE DIRECTOR OF THE SITE. EACH PROGRAM IS DESIGNED ACCORDING TO THE PRINCIPLES OF APPLIED BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS. THE QSAC SCHOOLS ALSO PROVIDE RELATED SERVICES, AND OFFER FAMILY MEMBERS THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN PARENT TRAINING WORKSHOPS AND FAMILY SUPPORT GROUPS. THE SCHOOL AND PRESCHOOL SITES HAVE STUDENT TO STAFF CLASS SIZES OF 6:1:3, 8:1:2, 10:1:2 AND 12:1:2. (CONT'D ON SCHEDULE O) (CONT'D FROM PAGE 2) THEY ARE FULL-DAY PROGRAMS THAT OPERATE 12 MONTHS A YEAR. THE QSAC PRESCHOOL CONTINUED TO EXPAND IN FISCAL YEAR 2019/2020 IN BOTH OUR QUEENS AND BRONX LOCATIONS BY OPENING AN ADDITIONAL SPECIAL CLASS IN EACH SITE. OUR PRESCHOOL AND SCHOOL SITES WERE ABLE TO MOVE SWIFTLY TO FULLY REMOTE INSTRUCTION FOLLOWING THE 3/16/2020 SCHOOL CLOSURES DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. WE REMAINED FULLY ENROLLED THROUGH 6/30/2020.
