To perpetuate a tradition of musical excellence and an appreciation of the classical-choral-orchestra repertoire.
The Cecilia Chorus of New York cultivates a rich community of musicians, composers and concert-goers to create distinctive choral experiences and performances that challenge and uplift the human spirit.
This season, under the baton of music director, Mark Shapiro, The Cecilia Chorus of New York performed Bach's Christmas Oratorio in December 2019 with soloists and orchestra in Carnegie Hall's Isaac Stern Auditorium/Ronald O. Perelman Stage. In March 2020, the chorus performed a program of pieces setting the story of Belshazzar from the Book of Daniel with soloists and orchestra at St. Francis Xavier church. Our outreach to high school and college students and clients of social services organizations provided tickets underwritten by chorus members donations. The customary spring Carnegie Hall concert and summer sing were cancelled due to the pandemic.
