Organizations Filed Purposes: Our mission is to create a more peaceful and productive community by providing teenagers, young adults and community residents greater access to real employment, education, training and other resources to help them enhance their lives.

Street Corner Resources has successfully operated an Anti-Gun Violence program in Central Harlem called Cure Violence. This program is part of the City of New Yorks Crisis Management System (CMS). Our outreach staff engages with the population that is at the highest risk of being involved in gun violence and we implement strategies to interrupt violence and to change social norms around gun violence.Street Corner Resources has participated in multiple activities that heighten the publics awareness of gun violence and educates them on methods they can use to increase their own safety as well as the safety of the community. As part of our community engagement strategy, Street Corner Resources hosts a monthly Peace Caf Open Mic Night where local residents perform their artistic talents in a peaceful, positive atmosphere. Residents come out to support these artists and enjoy a family friendly event that promotes peace and positivity in the community. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March of 2020, Street Corner Resources played a leading role in promoting preventative health measures in the community to help save lives. We distributed education materials and personal protective equipment (PPE) to community members and communicated the importance of practicing coronavirus safety guidelines.

Street Corner Resources operates a Mobile Trauma Unit, known as the Peace Beast. This is essentially an office on wheels that allows us to deliver our gun violence prevention services to the areas most in need. We respond to incidents of violence in our catchment area and in the surrounding community and deliver trauma-informed counseling services to those affected by incidents of violence. We also operate a school-based conflict mediation program wherein we counsel and mentor students regarding the importance of resolving differences peacefully, the de-escalation of potentially violent circumstances, as well as focusing on academic achievement.

As part of its Cure Violence program, Street Corner Resources partners with Harlem Hospital in the implementation of the Crisis Management System (CMS) Hospital Responder program. When a victim of traumatic violence is brought to Harlem Hospital, the Hospitals emergency unit staff notifies our Hospital Responder staff. We report to the hospital, assess the incident and seek to engage with the victim, his or her family and friends in an effort to reduce the trauma experienced by the victim as well as their family and friends. We also strive to reduce and eliminate any acts of retaliation that might arise out of the circumstances of the violent incident
