Swisscontact North America supports programs to promote economic, social and ecological development and to reduce poverty in the developing countries of Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America.
Financial Inclusion Initiative - SCNA supported Sarathi, a three-year financial inclusion program for ready-made garment workers in Bangladesh. In 2019, 32,150 worker salary accounts were opened at three partner banks in Bangladesh. Models for bank profitability for digitized wage systems were assessed, 98 financial literacy sessions were organized and research into creating worker credit lines and debit card access were begun.
SCNA implemented a skills development project under the Bangladesh Partnership Initiative. Phase 1 completed in July 2019 supported 1,400 youth from three north-eastern districts in Bangladesh, by providing training on industry-demanded technical and soft skills and positioning them for new or improved employment opportunities.
