Organizations Filed Purposes: TECTONIC THEATER PROJECT is an award-winning company whose plays have been performed around the world. The company is dedicated to developing innovative works that explore theatrical language and form, fostering an artistic dialogue with audiences on the social, political, and human issues that affect us all. In service to this goal, Tectonic supports readings, workshops, and full theatrical productions, as well as training for students around the country in our play-making techniques.

The Album, or Here There Are BlueberriesWritten by Founding Artistic Director Moiss Kaufman and company member Amanda Gronich.April 6, 2019: Co-Writer of The Album Amanda Gronich and Tectonic Executive Director Matt Joslyn presentation and discussion of potential themes, storylines and ethics for this play at the Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics (FASPE) fellows reunion.March 28 and April 2, 2019: Workshop and an invited audience reading of the play-in-progress, with eight actor/devisors, authors and full staff.April 20 30, 2019: Research trip to Poland and Germany, including the site of the Auschwitz concentration camp, to conduct interviews with researchers, specialtists, relatives of perpetrators and victims of the Holocaust in order to more fully understand the Hcker album of photographs and its historical context that form the nucleus of the play.June 24 29 and July 11 16, 2019: Eight actor/devisors and ten staff (including the authors, stage manager, dramaturg, script supervisor, line producer and assistants) in daily workshops to continue the process of creating moments for the play. Workshopping the play at New 42nd Street Studios in NYC and at the Taconic Hills Performing Arts Center in Hudson, NY with full eight-hour workshop days throughout. Experiments with visuals and auditioning text continued throughout, guided by the authors and staff.October 3, 2019: Jefferson Dinner with the authors and company members of Tectonic with members of FASPE and other experts on the subject of the Hcker album, to discuss what we learn by studying the perpetrators of the Holocaust, and what the Hoecker album reveals about them and us.November 11, 2019: Reading of the play-in-progress for potential donors/backersNovember 18 through December 16, 2019: Nine full days of workshops in NYC with actor/devisors, the authors and staff to continue to hone the play and add and edit material.Work will continue with the goal of a full production during the 2020-2021 season.Treatment & Data (formerly titled Euphoria)By Moiss Kaufman, a play about the ACT UP movement, and Spencer Cox specifically, dealing with long term survivors of AIDS.May 6 30, 2019: Nine full days of workshops with actor/devisors, the author and staff to continue working on moments and text for the play.June 4 - 6, 2019: Workshops with the author, actor/devisors and staff with a final presentation of the work accomplished for the playin-progress for staff, board and stakeholders.October 2 30, 2019: Eight full days of workshops with the author, actor/devisors and staff to continue working on moments and text for the play, with a final presentation of new material for staff, board and stakeholders.Throughout 2019, continued interviews with participants of ACT UP, the Treatment and Data working group and long-term AIDS survivors.Las Aventuras de Juan PlanchardBy Moiss Kaufman based on the book by Jonathan Jakubowitz, written in Spanish and commissioned by Tectonic. The play has been substantially written in 2019 and will continue to be refined moving forward in anticipation of Spanish-language productions in Miami, in Spanish-language theaters across the United States, South America and Spain.July 24, 25 & 30, 2019: Full-day workshops with the author, nine actor/devisors and staff to flesh out the play and audition text.November 13 - 20, 2019: Workshop and full presentation at Miami New Drama in Miami Beach, Florida for the public as well as potential backers for the play.Zephyrby Jeffrey LaHoste, commissioned by Tectonic Theater ProjectMarch 11, 2019 and November 12, 2019: Workshops and readings of the play for staff, board members and potential backers.Tectonic is continuing to pursue an initial professional production of the play, and further workhops/presentations are scheduled for 2020 at Loyola University in New Orleans.The Very Extraordinary Mr. LawBy Jeffrey LaHoste, commissioned by Tectonic Theater ProjectTectonic continues to seek an initial professional production of the play. A workshop and reading is scheduled for 2020 in Austin, TX with an anticipated full production the following season.Moments in ProgressAn initiative by Tectonic Theater Project to hold twice-yearly (when possible) ticketed evening events of readings from our works-inprogress aimed at keeping our donors, funders, supporters and board engaged in our continuing work on new plays. Events were held in 2019 at TheaterLab in NYC on February 11 and June 17 and each were sold out.
