TRICKLE UP HELPS PEOPLE IN EXTREME POVERTY AND VULNERABILITY ADVANCE THEIR ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL WELL-BEING. WE DRIVE LARGE-SCALE CHANGE BY PARTNERING WITH GOVERNMENTS, GLOBAL INSTITUTIONS, AND LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS.
TO BRING BREAKTHROUGH OPPORTUNITIES TO THE WORLD'S POOREST AND MOST VULNERABLE PEOPLE
PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION:TRICKLE UP IMPLEMENTED ITS CORE GRADUATION PROGRAM THROUGH LOCAL PARTNERS IN BURKINA FASO, BANGLADESH, GUATEMALA, MEXICO, INDIA, AND VIETNAM. THE GRADUATION APPROACH INCLUDES A CAREFULLY SEQUENCED SERIES OF INTERVENTIONS INCLUDING TARGETING THE POOREST FAMILIES, SUPPORTING THEM IN FORMING SELF-HELP GROUPS TO BUILD SAVINGS AND CREDIT, SELECTION OF AN APPROPRIATE LIVELIHOOD ACTIVITY WITH CLOSE AND REGULAR COACHING, AND THE PROVISION OF A SEED CAPITAL GRANT TO BEGIN THE LIVELIHOOD ACTIVITY. TRICKLE UP PROVIDED SUPPORT TO 21,799 PARTICIPANTS IN BURKINA FASO, TO 6,310 PARTICIPANTS IN GUATEMALA AND MEXICO, TO 27,624 PARTICIPANTS IN INDIA, BANGLADESH AND VIETNAM AND 6,395 PARTICIPANTS IN UGANDA, FOR A TOTAL OF 62,128 PARTICIPANTS. CONSIDERING AN AVERAGE FAMILY SIZE IN EACH REGION, OUR PROGRAMS WERE ABLE TO REACH OVER 464,301 PEOPLE THEREBY REDUCING THEIR VULNERABILITY, IMPROVING THEIR FOOD SECURITY, AND SUPPORTING THEM IN TAKING THEIR FIRST STEPS OUT OF EXTREME POVERTY.
PROGRAM SUPPORT:TRICKLE UP HAS A SMALL PROGRAM TEAM BASED IN OUR HEADQUARTERS OFFICE THAT PROVIDES OVERSIGHT AND TECHNICAL COORDINATION TO THE IN-COUNTRY AND HUMANITARIAN TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TEAMS AND FACILITATES COORDINATION AND LEARNING ACROSS PROGRAM UNITS AND WITH EXTERNAL ACTORS ACTIVE IN THE POVERTY ALLEVIATION SPACE. IN NORMAL YEARS THE HEADQUARTERS TEAM VISITS EACH OFFICE PERIODICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR TO PROVIDE TECHNICAL SUPPORT AND OVERSIGHT AND ENGAGES WITH GOVERNMENT PARTNERS IN EACH OF THE REGIONS SUPPORT STRATEGIC PLANNING FOR JOINT DEMONSTRATIONS PROJECT EMBEDDED IN EXISTING GOVERNMENT PRO-POOR POLICIES AND PROGRAMS. SINCE MID-MARCH 2020, THE PROGRAM TEAM HAS PROVIDED SUPPORT WITH FREQUENTLY SCHEDULED ZOOM CALLS WITH THE PROGRAM TEAMS, AND OFTEN WITH PARTNERS. THE PROGRAM TEAM ENGAGES IN TECHNICAL MEETINGS IN THE DEVELOPMENT COMMUNITY TO SHARE LEARNING AND FOSTER STRATEGIC ALLIANCES, INCLUDING THE SEEP NETWORK (SMALL ENTERPRISE, EDUCATION AND PROMOTION NETWORK - TO FOSTER FINANCIAL INCLUSION); THE PARTNERSHIP FOR ECONOMIC INCLUSION (PEI) , A WORLD BANK GROUP INSTRUMENT AL IN DEVELOPING THE MODEL TO SUCCESSFULLY GRADUATE PEOPLE OUT OF EXTREME POVERTY AND FOR FOSTERING KEY LEARNING ON KEY INTITIATIVES RELATED TO ECONOMIC INCLUSION FOR THE VERY POOR; AND INTERACTION, A CONSORTIUM OF US PVOS FOCUSED ON INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT. IN INDIA, WE CONTINUE OUR PARTNERSHIPS WITH THE NATIONAL RURAL LIVELIHOOD MISSION THROUGH ITS STATE GOVERNMENT AGENCIES IN THE STATES OF JHARKHAND AND ODISHA TO INCORPORATE THE GRADUATION APPROACH TO MORE EFFECTIVELY REACH CRITICALLY VULNERABLE GROUPS THROUGH GOVERNMENT SERVICES. IN WEST AFRICA, WE FINALIZED A PROGRAM IN OCTOBER 2020 WHEREIN WE HAVE WORKED WITH THE WORLD BANK OVER THE PAST THREE YEARS IN THE DESIGN AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT FOR THEIR ADAPTIVE SOCIAL PROTECTION PROGRAM ACROSS 5 FRANCOPHONE COUNTRIES IN THE SAHEL. IN THE AMERICAS WE PARTNER WITH LOCAL GOVERNMENT IN GUATEMALA FOR DEMONSTRATION PROJECTS, AND IN MEXICO WITH 4 LOCAL NGOS TO IMPROVE THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL CONDITIONS OF PEOPLE LIVING IN POVERTY IN THE YUCATAN AND CHIAPAS, WITH AN EMPHASIS ON WORKING WITH INDIGENOUS POPULATIONS. MEETING WITH THESE PARTNERS AND CONFERENCE ATTENDANCE ENABLE US TO SHARE OUR EXPERIENCE AND LEARN FROM KEY GOVERNMENT ACTORS INTERESTED IN IMPROVING POLICY OUTREACH AND FINANCIAL INCLUSION OF THE POOREST SEGMENTS OF THEIR POPULATIONS.
TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE:WITH SUPPORT FROM THE USAID/BUREAU OF HUMAITARIAN ASSISTANCE, OPEN SOCIETY FOUNDATION AND OTHER PARTNERS, TRICKLE UP HAS CONTINUED ITS WORK WITH POPULATIONS AFFECTED BY DISPLACEMENT IN FY20. WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH INTERNATIONAL NGO PARTNERS (INCLUDING AVSI FOUNDATION, THE NORWEIGAN REFUGEE COUNCIL AND CARITAS SWITZERLAND) WE HAVE:A. SUPPORTED, WITH REMOTE AND IN-COUNTRY TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, GRADUATION APPROACH PROJECTS AND PROJECT DESIGN IN 3 COUNTRIES (UGANDA, KENYA AND JORDAN). B. CONTRIBUTED TO THE GRADUATION AND REFUGEES COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE - INCLUDING UNHCR, NGO PARTNERS, AND GOVERNMENT ACTORS - THROUGH THE DOCUMENTATION AND DISSEMINATION OF GOOD PRACTICES AND LEARNINGS. C. AS A FOUNDING MEMBER OF THE POVERTY ALLEVIATION COALITION, A COALITION OF UNHCR, THE WORLD BANK PARTNERSHIP FOR ECONOMIC INCLUSION (PEI) AND NGOS WORKING TOWARDS THE COMMON VISION OF INCREASING SELF-RELIANCE, ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL INCLUSION OF REFUGEES & HOST COMMUNITIES BY SUSTAINABLY INCREASING INCOME-EARNING OPPORTUNITIES. AS A TECHNICAL ASSITANCE PROVIDER, TRICKLE UP HAS CONTINUED TO SUPPORT BOTH GLOBAL AND COUNTRY-LEVEL SUPPORT TO THE PAC.
