Organizations Filed Purposes: The United Jewish Council of the East Side (UJC) is in its 46th year of service. Formed in 1971 by civic leaders the United Jewish Council's mission is to preserve the Lower East Side community through the provision of services and programs. Many of which are geard to the elderly.

United Jewish Council of the East Side, (UJC), works to preserce the Lower East Side community through the provision of a wide range of human services and community development programs.

Extended Services:The UJC Extended Services Program located at 235 East Broadway, NY, NY 10002.This program is a walk in social services office staffed by social workers who speak a variety of languages, e.g., English, Spanish Russian and Chinese so that UJC is able to assist adult and older adult clients of every cultural and ethnic background found in this community. Services include case assistance, benefit and entitlement counseling, crisis intervention, home visits, and information and referral. All services are available five days a week at the 233-235 East Broadway office and the staff is supervised by a certified social worker. Last year our Social Workers assisted with:199 Subsidy Assistance, assistance with housing and recertification applications 35 Eviction Preventions8 Relocation Assistance 4 Housing Court Assistance 18 Tenant assistance/ Rental counseling 211 Assists with all public benefits 44 Immigration Assistance cases

UJC Adult Luncheon Club:The UJC Adult Luncheon Club Located at 15-17 Willet Street NY NY 10002 is a DFTA funded Senior Center. The Lunch Club as it is known serves over 27,500 congregate meals and delivers over 58,000 homebound meals each year. At the center, there is a variety of programming: health promotion, recreational and educational, and health management classes each week all. In addition, there is a consumer choice food pantry open once a week that serves over 300 families.

The Lillian Wald Senior Center:The Lillian Wald Senior Center located at 12 Avenue D, NY NY 10009 is a DFTA funded senior center. At least 60 seniors have lunch each day at the center and that number is growing. Another 40 to 50 seniors visit the center each day for activities or for socialization. On site, there is a case worker that sees at least ten clients a day assisting with a variety of services. Lillian Wald also operates a weekly consumer choice food pantry serving 500 families.
