OUR STUDENTS ARE ATTENDING THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS UNIVERSITIES IN OTHER COUNTRIES, INCLUDING THE UNITED STATES. UNIS OFFERS THE INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE(IB) DIPLOMA; THE OBJECTIVES OF THE IB ARE TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH A BALANCED AND RIGOROUS EDUCATION,TO FACILITATE GEOGRAPHIC AND CULTURAL MOBILITY, AND TO PROMOTE INTERNATIONAL UNDERSTANDING. CANDIDATES FOLLOW AN INTENSIVE PRESCRIBED CURRICULUM IN GRADES 11 AND 12 THAT,UPON COMPLETION IS EQUIVALENT TO THE FIRST YEAR OF COLLEGE. IN THE CLASS OF 2019, 115STUDENTSPARTICIPATED IN THE IB PROGRAM; 113STUDENTSSAT FOR THE IB DIPLOMA; 107STUDENTSEARNED THE DIPLOMA (95% PASS RATE, THE WORLD PASS RATE OF 77%).JUNIOR SCHOOL- THE JUNIOR SCHOOL PROVIDES A SUPPORTIVE, NURTURING ENVIRONMENT THAT IS AN EXCELLENT TRANSITION FROM HOME TO SCHOOL. CHILDREN ARE TAUGHT SELF RELIANCE AND PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY IN AN ATMOSPHERE THAT FOSTERS SELF ESTEEM AND RESPECT FOR OTHERS. FROM THEIR VERY FIRST DAY, STUDENTS LEARN THAT THEY ARE PART OF A VIBRANT INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY AND ARE ENCOURAGED TO FORM A GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE. FRENCH, SPANISH, ART, MUSIC AND MOVEMENT ARE TAUGHT ALONGSIDE TRADITIONAL SUBJECTS. DESIGN TECHNOLOGY CLASSES BEGIN IN THE EARLY GRADES AND ARE VIEWED AS VITAL TOOLS FOR COMMUNICATION, PROBLEM SOLVING AND INFORMATION RETRIEVAL. ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE(ESL) IS PROVIDED FOR STUDENTS WITH LIMITED ENGLISH PROFICIENCY, AND FRENCH AND SPANISH MOTHER TONGUE CLASSES ARE OFFERED.MIDDLE SCHOOL IS A CRITICAL PERIOD FOR ADOLESCENT SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL AND INTELLECTUAL GROWTH. THE MIDDLE SCHOOL CURRICULUM BUILDS UPON THE UNDERSTANDINGS, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE LEARNED IN PREVIOUS YEARS, ADDING NEW SUBJECTS AND ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE OPTIONS TO THE PROGRAM. IN THE 3RD YEAR OF MIDDLE SCHOOL, STUDENTS ADD A THIRD LANGUAGE TO THEIR COURSE OF STUDY, IN ADDITION TO THE FRENCH OR SPANISH THAT THEY HAVE STUDIED SINCE JUNIOR SCHOOL. NINE LANGUAGES ARE TAUGHT IN TOTAL, INCLUDING ENGLISH, WITH MOTHER TONGUE INSTRUCTION AVAILABLE IN EIGHT LANGUAGES. STUDENTS WHO SPEAK A LANGUAGE OTHER THAN ENGLISH ARE PLACED IN BEGINNING, INTERMEDIATE, OR ADVANCED ELL CLASSES, OR IN A FULL MAINSTREAM PROGRAM AT THE APPROPRIATE GRADE LEVEL, BASED ON ASSESSMENTS CONDUCTED BY OUR ELL (ENGISH LANGUAGE LEARNER) FACULTY. TECHNOLOGY IS AN INTEGRATED PART OF THE STUDENTS' LIVES AND LEARNING EXPERIENCE IN THE UNIS MIDDLE SCHOOL THROUGH A ONE-TO-ONE LAPTOP PROGRAM.
