Organizations Filed Purposes:
URI'S MISSION IS TO PROVIDE QUALITY, COMPASSIONATE AND INNOVATIVE CLIENT-CENTERED SERVICES TO VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND OTHER VULNERABLE POPULATIONS SO THAT THEY MAY LEAD THE SAFEST AND FULLEST LIVES POSSIBLE.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROGRAMS AND SERVICES URBAN RESOURCE INSTITUTE (URI) IS THE LARGEST PROVIDER OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTER SERVICES IN THE COUNTRY. URI CURRENTLY OVERSEES 12 DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTERS OFFERING CLOSE TO 1,200 BEDS ON ANY GIVEN NIGHT. DURING 2019, URI SERVED OVER 3,014 CLIENTS, BOTH ADULTS AND CHILDREN, IN SHELTER. URI OPERATES BOTH EMERGENCY SHELTERS, WHICH SUPPORT SURVIVORS IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THEIR ESCAPE FROM ABUSE, AND TRANSITIONAL SHELTERS, WHICH HELP SURVIVORS AS THEY PREPARE TO RE-ADJUST BACK INTO THE COMMUNITY. IN 2019, URI OPENED TWO NEW DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTERS, OFFERING 100 ADDITIONAL UNITS OF SHELTER TO FAMILIES. OUR RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMS CREATE A SAFE AND SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY ENVIRONMENT, WITH THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF PROVIDING SURVIVORS WITH THE TOOLS THEY NEED TO REBUILD THEIR LIVES AND THRIVE. URI IS ALSO THE ONLY ORGANIZATION IN NEW YORK CITY THAT PROVIDES A CO-LIVING MODEL FOR SURVIVORS TO HEAL IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT WITH THEIR PETS. IN 2019, THE PROGRAM ACCOMMODATED 87 FAMILIES WITH 120 PETS. WE ALSO OFFERED ANCILLARY SERVICES INCLUDING HOUSING PLACEMENT, ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMS, COUNSELING, LEGAL ASSISTANCE, CHILDREN'S SERVICES, CRIME VICTIM SUPPORT FOR SURVIVORS AND THEIR FAMILIES, AS WELL AS PREVENTION SERVICES TO INCLUDE TRAUMA-INFORMED BATTERER INTERVENTION SERVICES AND RELATIONSHIP ABUSE PREVENTION PROGRAMMING FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH TO EDUCATE THEM ON HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS.
PROGRAMS FOR HOMELESS FAMILIES URI'S PROGRAMS FOR HOMELESS FAMILIES SEEKS TO EMPOWER HOMELESS INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES USING BEST PRACTICES, TAKING A CLIENT-CENTERED, TRAUMA-INFORMED APPROACH IN THE PROVISION OF SERVICES. PARALLEL TO THE MISSION OF THE AGENCY, OUR MISSION IS TO END THE CYCLE OF HOMELESSNESS AND TRAUMA BY INCREASING SAFETY AND RESILIENCY. DURING THE PERIOD FROM JANUARY 1 DECEMBER 31, 2019 THE HOMELESS DIVISION SERVICED 10,649 INDIVIDUALS OF WHICH 5,679 WERE CHILDREN PROVIDING CASE MANAGEMENT, STRUCTURED SOCIALIZATION AND RECREATION AND HOUSING PLACEMENT ASSISTANCE. WE ALSO PLACED OVER 668 INDIVIDUALS INTO PERMANENT HOUSING. THIS YEAR WE COMPLETED THE PURCHASE OF PACIFIC PLACE OUR TIER 2 FACILITY LOCATED IN BROOKLYN, ALLOWING FOR MORE RESOURCES FOR DIRECT SERVICES. WITH THE HOMELESS EPIDEMIC IN NYC, THERE ARE MORE THAN 13,000 FAMILIES AND 20,000 CHILDREN SLEEPING IN HOMELESS SHELTERS ANY GIVEN NIGHT. THIS IS THE REASON URI OPTED TO OPEN NEW SHELTERS IN THE COMING YEAR, WHICH INCLUDES AN ADDITIONAL 154 UNITS FOR FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN.
ADULTS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES - URI MANAGES TWO TYPES OF RESIDENTIAL SERVICES FOR INDIVIDUALS DIAGNOSED WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES: INTERMEDIATE CARE FACILITIES (ICF) AND RESIDENTIAL ALTERNATIVE (IRA). IN 2019, URI SERVED 25 ADULT MEN AND WOMEN IN ITS ICF. THE IRA SERVED EIGHT (8) ADULT MEN AND WOMEN. IN 2019 URI CONTINUED CONVERTING ICFS TO IRAS AS REQUIRED BY OFFICE FOR PEOPLE WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES (OPWDD), WITH AN INTENTION TO COMPLETE THE CONVERSIONS BY THE END OF CALENDAR YEAR 2020. ALL RESIDENCES CONTINUED TO FOCUS ON OFFERING PERSON-CENTERED PLANNING AND A WIDE VARIETY OF SERVICES, INCLUDING TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM DAY PROGRAMS; COMMUNITY INTEGRATION AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES; NUTRITIONAL, OCCUPATIONAL, AND PHYSICAL THERAPIES; AND SPEECH SERVICES. THESE RESIDENTIAL FACILITIES ARE CERTIFIED BY OPWDD AND SPECIALLY TRAINED STAFF IS ASSIGNED TO THEM 24 HOURS A DAY.
