Organizations Filed Purposes: A 94 YEAR OLD NONPROFIT VISION REHABILITATION AND SOCIAL SERVICE ORGANIZATION THAT TRAINS LOW INCOME PEOPLE OF ALL AGES WITH BLINDNESS AND SEVERE VISION LOSS TO LEAD INDEPENDENT AND ACTIVE LIVES AT WORK, IN THEIR HOMES AND COMMUNITIES, TRAINS AND SUPPORTS THEIR FAMILIES AND UNPAID CAREGIVERS. VISIONS FREE SERVICES FOCUS ON REACHING PERSONS OF COLOR; PEOPLE WITH LIMITED ENGLISH PROFICIENCY; FRAIL ELDERS; PERSONS OF ALL AGES WITH MULTIPLE DISABILITIES; PEOPLE OF VERY LOW INCOME. OUR VISION IS FOR EVERYONE TO SEE WHAT IS POSSIBLE. WE TURN POSSIBILITIES INTO REALITIES FOR OVER 7000 PERSONS ANNUALLY. 89 CENTS OF EVERY DOLLAR IS SPENT ON PROGRAM. 33% OF STAFF IDENTIFY AS BLIND OR VISUALLY IMPAIRED AND 43% OF STAFF IS BILINGUAL.

TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT PROGRAMS TO INCREASE INDEPENDENCE AND WORK FOR LOW INCOME LEGALLY BLIND PERSONS AND SUPPORT THEIR FAMILIES. EDUCATE THE PUBLIC TO UNDERSTAND THE CAPABILITIES AND NEEDS OF PEOPLE OF ALL AGES WHO ARE LEGALLY BLIND SO THAT THEY MAY BE INTEGRATED INTO ALL ASPECTS OF COMMUNITY LIFE.

COMMUNITY SERVICES INCLUDES VISION REHABILITATION, YOUTH SERVICES, WORK READINESS, JOB PLACEMENT AND UNPAID CAREGIVER SUPPORT SERVICES. THERE WERE 5,482 PERSONS SERVED IN ALL COMMUNITY PROGRAMS. THE OUTREACH DEPARTMENT TRAINED OVER 8000 PEOPLE ABOUT VISION LOSS. VISIONS RECEIVED 1756 REFERRALS FOR PARTICIPANTS THAT RECEIVED AT LEAST ONE CONTACT. OUTREACH AND SERVICES ARE PROVIDED IN 16 LANGUAGES USING PART TIME INTERPRETERS AND 41 BI-LINGUAL STAFF. 78 BLIND YOUTH AND ADULTS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED A PAID INTERNSHIP AFTER-SCHOOL AND DURING THE SUMMER. 43 BLIND YOUTH ATTENDED A ONE MONTH RESIDENTIAL PRE-COLLEGE PROGRAMS AT MANHATTANVILLE AND QUEENS COLLEGE. BLINDLINE RECEIVED APPROXIMATELY 1000 INQUIRIES. VISIONS WAS #1 IN JOB PLACEMENT WITHIN NYS FOR A 4TH YEAR.

VISIONS CENTER ON BLINDNESS VCB: A TOTAL OF 814 PARTICIPANTS ATTENDED. BLIND CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES AND YOUTH PROGRAMS HELD AT VCB CONTINUE TO BE GROWTH AREAS. SESSIONS HELD AT VCB PREPARE BLIND YOUTH AND ADULTS FOR THE WORLD OF WORK AND LEAD TO SUCCESSFUL EMPLOYMENT. VISION REHABILITATION AND WORK READINESS PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR HELD AT VCB CONTINUE TO SHOW GROWTH FOR ALL AGES. A FOCUS ON HEALTH, WELLNESS, PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND SOCIAL CONNECTIONS INCREASED THE IMPACT OF VCB SERVICES AS MEASURED BY SELF-REPORTING OF PARTICIPANTS ON SURVEYS. THE PARTNERSHIP WITH THE DEAF BLIND COLLABORATIVE ATTRACTED 23 FAMILIES WITH DEAF-BLIND CHILDREN. THE NEW VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION CENTER, BUILT IN AUGUST 2017 ON THE VCB CAMPUS, OFFERED PRE-EMPLOYMENT TRANSITION PROGRAM (PRE-ETS) AND TECHNOLOGY TRAINING YEAR ROUND FOR BLIND YOUTH AND ADULTS.THE VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION CENTER FACILITY ON THE VCB CAMPUS OFFERED 15 WEEK SESSIONS FOR PRE-ETS STUDENTS AGE 18-21 YEARS OLD FUNDED BY THE NYS COMMISSION FOR THE BLIND.

VISIONS AT SELIS MANOR: THE NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS INCREASED TO 217. THERE HAS BEEN AN INCREASE IN THE TYPE OF CLASSES OFFERED FOR ADULTS AND SENIORS INCLUDING NEW SUPPORT GROUPS AND NEW EVIDENCE BASED EXERCISE PROGRAMS. THERE WAS AN INCREASE TO 1129 PARTICIPANTS REGISTERED FOR SERVICES AT VISIONS AT SELIS MANOR INCLUDING OVER 700 REGISTERED FOR THE SENIOR CENTER. BASED ON SELF-REPORTED SURVEYS, NEARLY 75% OF PARTICIPANTS ARE MORE SATISFIED WITH THEIR LIFE BECAUSE OF PARTICIPATION AT VISIONS; MORE THAN 70% HAVE MADE EXERCISE A PART OF THEIR ROUTINE; MOST REPORT THEY ARE MORE OPTIMISTIC, SELF-CONFIDENT AND CAPABLE OF SELF-ACCEPTANCE.
