RESOLVE TO SAVE LIVES WILL WORK WITH AND SUPPORT KEY PARTNERS INCLUDING THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION, THE CDC FOUNDATION, WORLD BANK, CAMPAIGN FOR TOBACCO-FREE KIDS, AND THE JOHNS HOPKINS BLOOMBERG SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH.THE FIVE-YEAR, $225 MILLION RESOLVE TO SAVE LIVES INITIATIVE IS FUNDED BY BLOOMBERG PHILANTHROPIES, THE BILL & MELINDA GATES FOUNDATION, AND GATES PHILANTHROPY PARTNERS, WHICH IS FUNDED WITH SUPPORT FROM THE CHAN ZUCKERBERG FOUNDATION. IT IS LED BY DR. TOM FRIEDEN, FORMER DIRECTOR OF THE US CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION, AND HOUSED AT VITAL STRATEGIES, WHICH WORKS IN 60 COUNTRIES WITH THE VISION OF A WORLD WHERE EVERY PERSON IS PROTECTED BY A STRONG PUBLIC HEALTH SYSTEM.

TOBACCO CONTROL:IN 2019, VITAL STRATEGIES' WORK STRENGTHENED PROTECTIONS FOR HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF PEOPLE AGAINST THE HARMS OF TOBACCO, FROM NEW SMOKE-FREE LAWS PASSED IN SOME OF CHINA'S LARGEST CITIES, TO A TOTAL E-CIGARETTE BAN IN INDIA. THIS YEAR WE ALSO RAN OUR FIRST GOVERNMENT-FUNDED ANTI-INDUSTRY CAMPAIGN IN TURKEY WORTH MORE THAN USD $30 MILLION DOLLARS. IN 2019, STAGE 1 OF STREAM, INITIATED BY THE UNION AND IMPLEMENTED JOINTLY WITH VITAL STRATEGIES AND PART-NERS, GENERATED IMPORTANT RESULTS THAT PLAYED A SIGNIFICANT ROLE IN WHO'S ENDORSEMENT OF A SHORTER STANDARDIZED 9- TO 11-MONTH REGIMEN FOR MDR-TB, WHICH REDUCES TREATMENT TIME AND CUTS THE OVERALL PILL BURDEN BY ABOUT 60%.
