Established in 1997, The What to Expect Project is a 501(c)3 public operating charity that focuses on ensuring that moms survive one of lifes most challenging experiences, as well as ensuring that they thrive during pregnancy, during childbirth, and for a lifetime. Our whole-mom, whole-family, whole-community approach supports the worlds most vulnerable moms before, during, after pregnancy, and beyond. We are committed to empower, protect, sustain, guide, encourage, nourish, and nurture the worlds most vulnerable moms. We employ the latest evidence-based strategies in the fields of health, education, and communication to educate and train health care providers to deliver effective health messaging, and provide them with the tools and training to overcome barriers to implementing and delivering messaging and care. WTEP develops and implements initiatives, social media advocacy campaigns, and a range of other efforts to advance maternal health and end preventable maternal deaths in the U.S. and globally. One of our signature programs, Baby Basics, helps all types of organizationsfrom health departments to grassroots community workers, and everyone in betweento get moms in need the health information and support they need during this most pivotal time in a womans life, her pregnancy. We envision a world where all expecting moms, in the U.S. and around the world, receive the vital, science-based information and the compassionate, culturally and linguistically-appropriate, and community-specific support needed to have a healthy pregnancy and a safe delivery. Where moms not only survive pregnancy and childbirth but thrive for a lifetime.
