Wingspan Arts Afterschool program, Club Wingspan, has been in operation since 2001, when founded in response to lack of arts education in public schools. Wingspan has aimed to create a safe, fun, and enriching afterschool experience for elementary-aged students by offering multi-disciplinary arts classes taught by professional artist educators. This last year, our afterschool program served 2,800 students at 14 schools, offering more than 628 arts classes throughout the year. Club Wingspan is a semester-based program offering 90-minute enrichment classes with an emphasis on the core four artistic disciplines Visual Art, Drama, Music, and Dance. Each Wingspan Arts class works toward a final presentation, performance or exhibition that represents the skills students acquire and master throughout the semester. At the end of each school year, Wingspan hosts a culminating community event to showcase every students talent, creativity and hard work. Participating families have access to scholarship awards and financial aid packages. Due to COVID-19, Afterschool programs transitioned to a virtual format for the last 4 months of the school year.

Wingspan Arts provides custom in-school arts residencies designed to meet the needs of participating K-12 schools. With a variety of designed programs, Wingspans current in-school residencies range from providing elective arts classes to integrated arts programming. All of Wingspan in-school residencies grow from a creative, collaborative process between Wingspan Arts and the School Partner, based on the core artistic disciplines Theatre, Music, Dance, and Visual Art. During the planning stages, Wingspan works with school administrators to design each program for its corresponding grade level based on state and national standards, in addition to specific arts standards such as those outlined in The New York City Blueprint for the Arts. Wingspan Teaching Artists, in collaboration with classroom teachers, work with students in a variety of creative disciplines during their academic day. Residencies can range from 8 weeks to a full school year, and have served around 2,000 students each year. Due to COVID-19, In-School programs transitioned to a virtual format for the last 4 months of the school year.

The Wingspan Arts Summer Conservatory provides free, pre-professional theatrical training opportunities to 75 students in 6th through 12th grade each year. By offering tuition-free arts training, the program most fully exemplifies our mission by concentrating on the creative goals and skills of our students, while also emphasizing the importance of commitment and professionalism in the arts. Through a variety of classes led by industry professionals, as well as hands-on rehearsal experience, Conservatory students learn the skills required to become accomplished theatre artists and leaders in their field. Wingspan Conservatory emphasizes the power of community by bringing young artists together in an inclusive, creative environment. In 19 years, the program has served more than 1,100 students and produced more than 63 productions. Wingspan Arts offers the only tuition-free, pre-professional theatre training program in New York City that culminates in full-scale productions. Students spend the summer acting, singing, and dancing while developing skills and friendships that will last them a lifetime. Due to COVID-19, this program ran virtually through Zoom in FY20.
