Organizations Filed Purposes: YLEANA'S MISSION IS TO CREATE AND PROMOTE AN ATMOSPHERE THAT ALLOWS KIDS TO BE WHOLLY THEMSELVES AND TO ENJOY BEING KIDS FOR JUST A MOMENT LONGER, WHILE BEING INSPIRED TO BE THE BEST THAT IS INSIDE THEM - BEYOND THEIR WILDEST DREAMS.

THE YLEANA LEADERSHIP FOUNDATION AIMS TO CREATE EXCEPTIONAL EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE OF ALL INCOME LEVELS: PREPARING OUR STUDENTS FOR SUCCESS AS PEOPLE AND PROFESSIONALS, WHILE DECREASING THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP. WE SEEK TO LEVEL THE PLAYING FIELD IN EDUCATION BY BOOSTING SAT SCORES AND CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF A TRADITIONAL SUMMER CAMP EXPERIENCE, ON A COLLEGE CAMPUS - WHICH PROVIDES A COLLEGE ACCESS EXPERIENCE AS WELL.

OUR FOUNDATION'S FLAGSHIP PROGRAM IS THE YLEANA LEADERSHIP ACADEMY ("THE ACADEMY") FOUNDED IN 2013. THE ACADEMY IS A RESIDENTIAL SUMMER ACADEMY ON THE CAMPUSES OF COLGATE UNIVERSITY AND MOUNT HOLYOKE COLLEGE FOR RISING HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS PREPARING TO TAKE THE SAT. STUDENTS PREPARE FOR THE SAT, DEVELOP ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILLS, READ, AND DISCUSS THEIR FUTURE WITH COUNSELORS AND EACH OTHER. THE APPROXIMATELY 80 LOW-INCOME STUDENTS WHO ATTEND THE ACADEMY EVERY SUMMER RECEIVE A FULL SCHOLARSHIP - INCLUDING TRANSPORTATION, TUITION, AND ROOM AND BOARD - TO ATTEND ONE OF OUR TWO THREE-WEEK SESSIONS. FOLLOW-UP ACADEMIC SESSIONS ARE ALSO CONDUCTED IN THESE STUDENTS' HOME TOWNS AS THEY PREPARE TO TAKE THAT FALL'S SAT.THE REMAINDER OF THE YEAR IS SPENT PROVIDING COLLEGE ACCESS SUPPORT THROUGH A GROWING MENTORING PROGRAM, MONITORING FORMER ACADEMY STUDENTS' SUCCESS IN HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE, GROWING OUR STUDENT BASE, INTERFACING AND GROWING RELATIONSHIPS WITH PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS AT SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS ACROSS THE EASTERN SEABOARD THROUGH WHICH WE FIND OUR APPLICANTS, KEEPING ABREAST OF CHANGES TO THE SAT AND BEST PRACTICES WITHIN THE FIELD OF EDUCATION, REFINING OUR CURRICULUM, AND PREPARING FOR THE NEXT ROUND OF STUDENT APPLICATIONS IN THE SPRING.IN THE FUTURE, AS YLEANA CONTINUES TO GROW, WE WILL NOT ONLY ADD TO THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS WE ARE ABLE TO ADMIT, BUT ALSO THE NUMBER OF THE PROGRAMS WE OFFER, AS THE EARLIER IN THEIR ACADEMIC LIVES WE ARE ABLE TO REACH AN YLEANA STUDENT, THE MORE IMPACT WE WILL BE ABLE TO HAVE. YLEANA CONSISTENTLY RECEIVES UPWARDS OF 300 APPLICANTS FOR APPROXIMATELY 80 SPOTS EACH SUMMER. WE ARE THUS WELL POSITIONED TO GROW, AND HOPE TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO OUR PROGRAM TO MORE AND MORE STUDENTS AS WE DO SO. WE CURRENTLY SERVE STUDENTS PRIMARILY FROM FOUR METROPOLITAN AREAS: BALTIMORE, PHILADELPHIA, NEW YORK CITY, AND BOSTON. WE HOPE TO EXPAND OUR GEOGRAPHICAL REACH TO MORE STUDENTS IN NEED AS OUR PROGRAM GROWS, AND THROUGH THE HELP OF DONATIONS.
