Organizations Filed Purposes: The mission of The York Theatre Company is fourfold:-Be a birthplace for new literate, intimate musicals, and a place where underappreciated musical gems from the past are rediscovered;-Provide support for the creators of new musical theatre and be a showcase for new musical theatre talent of all kinds;-Provide students with opportunities for hands-on theatre education; and-Serve the community by presenting free or low-cost musical theatre performances to under-served audiences.

To foster, study, improve and encourage cultural advancement for the theatrical arts community and public at large. To promote and encourage the work of authors, poets, playwrights, composers, choreographers and those in the professions of music, dance and theatrical arts in general. To encourage the performing arts by increasing cooperation between artists, students of arts, performers, writers, producers, designers, technicians, musicians, dancers, and all others engaged in artistic, theatrical and musical endeavors. To produce and subsidize theatrical and musical productions of all kinds.

Developement and presentation of theatrical eventsThe Mainstage Series presents two or three full productions of new musicals by emerging and established authors. In recent years, all have been world, American, or New York premieres. Each production typically runs seven performances per week for five weeks. Some productions have transferred to commercial Off-Broadway or Broadway runs, and many have received further productions in regional, stock, and university theatres. The York's productions have been regularly recognized with Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, OBIE, and Lucille Lortel nominations and awards. Numerous shows have been recorded as original cast albums. Directors, designers, cast, and musicians are drawn from among the best talent on and off-Broadway, whether established or new.The Musicals in Mufti Series presents three to five concert revival readings of underappreciated Broadway musicals for 11 performances each. "Mufti" means "in everyday clothes, without all the trappings of a large production, and each show is presented script-in-hand, with minimal staging. The series has celebrated such writers as Richard Rodgers, George Abbott, Jerry Herman, Joseph Stein, Sheldon Harnick, and, most recently, Jule Styne. Each year, The York makes a home for 30 to 40 readings of new musicals a year through its Developmental Reading Series. Our strong commitment to developing new work is an important part of what makes The York unique in the musical theatre community. We make it possible for writers to avail themselves of the opportunity to do a developmental reading and to be able to share it with an ever-growing, enthusiastic audience.

Muscial Theatre Training ProgramStarted in 2015, the York's MTTP brings working professionals in to work with eager and dedicated theatre students. Our rigorous yet nurturing programs offer training in singing, acting and movement and include master classes with some of New York's top theatre artists. Programs culminate in a showcase performance on the York's Off-Broadway stage. We currently offer a Summer Intensive for middle and high school students and a Winter Intensive for college students from across the nation.
