Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington, founded in 1968, is a membership organization dedicated to sustainable growth by protecting the environment, enhancing the quality of life and increasing environmental awareness on the entire Port Washington peninsula.Our Mission is to inspire and unify the residents of Port Washington to protect and advance the vibrancy, resiliency, sustainability and beauty of our peninsula. We aim to do this in 3 key ares:BEAUTIFICATION - We live in an extraordinarily beautiful town situated on the water. Our goal is to keep boosting the beauty and vibrancy of our town by continually improving our public spaces, making them more visually attractive, cleaner, and more usable. We do this via a series of programs, including Give a Litter Bit, Clean Green Main Street, the Port Washington Mural Project and Port Washington Blooms. EDUCATION - Residents is committed to reaching the youngest of our community members via the Port Washington schools, helping to
PUBLIC EDUCATION - PROVIDE THE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTITUDES THAT WILL LEAD TO A MORE SUSTAINABLE FUTURE. MAKING THE PEOPLE OF THE LOCAL COMMUNITIES AWARE OF THE IMPACT OF POPULATION AND COMMERCIAL GROWTH THROUGH NEWSLETTERS, ADVERTISEMENTS AND PUBLIC FORUMS AND COMMUNITY EVENTS.
BEAUTIFICATION PROGRAM - PLAN, PLANT AND MAINTAIN NEIGHBORHOOD PARKS. ADVOCACY FOR EXPANSION OF WALKING TRAILs creating better linkages throughout Port Washington. Spearheading, in conjunction with Town of North Hempstead, Business Improvement District, Chamber of Commerce, Long Island RailRoad and the Garbage District, the creation of the clean green zone on upper Main Street aimed at beautifying upper Main Street, and educating shop keepers and the general public to keep this shopping area "clean and green".
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND ADVOCACY PROGRAM - QUALITY OF LIFE ISSUES AND PROTECTION OF SAME REGARDING THE POPULATION GROWTH ON THE PORT WASHINGTON PENINSULA.Residents leads programs in the Port Washington School District providing all of the students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes that will lead to a more sustainable future. Programs foster a deep appreciation of nature as well as an understanding of the role humans play in the degredation of our precious and fragile ecosystems.
