Organizations Filed Purposes:
AN ADVOCATE FOR BUSINESS, A RESOURCE ON MATTERS AFFECTING BUSINESS AND A CHAMPION FOR THE REGION'S ECONOMIC HEALTH. THE CHAMBER IS COMMITTED TO PROVIDING THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY WITH THE LEADERSHIP NECESSARY TO MAXIMIZE THE ECONOMIC POTENTIAL OF OUR AREA.
ANNUAL EVENTS INCLUDING THE HV HOT AIR BALLOON FESTIVALTHE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE OFFERS A WIDE RANGE OF WEEKLY, MONTHLY, QUARTERLY AND ANNUAL EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES AND COLLECTS MEMBERSHIP DUES AND PUBLICATION FEES TO SUPPORT ITS MISSION. WE ALSO COORDINATE AND HOST A NUMBER OF EVENTS THAT SUPPORT OUR MEMBER ORGANIZATIONS, INCLUDING RIBBON CUTTINGS, GRAND OPENINGS, GROUND BREAKING CEREMONIES, BUSINESS TOURS, AND JOB SHADOW DAYS THAT ARE ATTENDED BY INDIVIDUALS FROM THE BUSINESS, ACADEMIC AND FROM THE GENERAL COMMUNITY. EACH EVENT IS TYPICALLY SPONSORED AND HOSTED BY A BUSINESS MEMBER, WHICH RECEIVES SPECIAL MARKETING AND ADVERTISING BENEFITS. OUR BUSINESS AFTER HOURS IS HELD AT A LOCAL MEMBER RESTAURANT AND THE AVERAGE MONTHLY ATTENDANCE IS 145 GUESTS. SPECIAL ANNUAL EVENTS INCLUDE THE ANNUAL GALA, OUR MEMBER BUSINESS EXPO, FLOATING BUSINESS BREAK, AND THE HUDSON VALLEY HOT AIR BALLOON FESTIVAL ARE GENERALLY SOLD OUT AND REMAIN POPULAR. THE CHAMBER ALSO ORGANIZES BREAKFASTS AND LUNCHES WITH LOCAL, STATE, AND FEDERAL LOCAL PUBLIC AND ELECTED OFFICIALS. ALL OF THESE EVENTS CONTRIBUTE TO FULFILLING OUR VISION OF BEING AN ADVOCATE FOR BUSINESS, THE COMMUNITY, AND AN INFORMATION SOURCE ON MATTERS AFFECTING BUSINESS. THE CHAMBER HOSTED OVER 172 EVENTS ATTRACTING MORE THAN 35,000 ATTENDEES. DURING THE MONTHS OF MARCH 2020 THROUGH JUNE 2020, EVENTS WERE OFFERED VIRTUALLY.
WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT CENTER PROGRAMSTHE CHAMBER OPERATES A WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT CENTER COMPRISED OF THE WORKFORCE CONNECTIONS PROGRAM AND THE CAREER ACTION CENTER PROGRAM. WORKFORCE CONNECTIONS PROGRAM PROVIDES COMPREHENSIVE JOB PLACEMENT AND JOB RETENTION SERVICES TO INCOME-ELIGIBLE ADULT RESIDENTS OF DUTCHESS COUNTY. THE PROGRAM ALSO PROVIDES SOFT SKILL TRAINING, MENTORING, CASE MANAGEMENT AND OTHER SERVICES TO ENROLLED PARTICIPANTS. FULL TIME MENTORS PROVIDED SERVICES TO 28 CLIENTS. 12 PERSONS BECAME EMPLOYED. THE CAREER ACTION CENTER IS OPERATED THROUGH AN AGREEMENT WITH THE POUGHKEEPSIE CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT AND PROVIDES CAREER AND EDUCATIONAL SERVICES TO ALL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AT OUR DROP IN CENTER. TWO FULL TIME MENTORS ALSO PROVIDE CLASS-ROOM BASED SERVICES TO 46 STUDENTS IN TWO SCHEDULED CLASSESS. STUDENTS RECEIVE ASSISTANCE WITH COLLEGE AND FINANCIAL PLANNING, JOB AND CAREER PLANNING, AS WELL AS TRAINING IN COMPUTER SKILLS, ESSAY WRITING AND INTERVIEWING. THE MENTORS PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH ACCESS TO INTERNSHIPS AND PAID EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES. DURING THE 2019-2020 ACADEMIC YEAR, THE CENTER WAS VISITED IN-PERSON 1,017 TIMES. DURING THE MONTHS OF MARCH 2020 THROUGH JUNE 2020, SERVICES WERE OFFERED VIRTUALLY.
THE ANNUAL GALA IS THE AREA'S PREMIER BLACK TIE EVENT RECOGNIZING NUMEROUS INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES AND BUSINESSES FROM THE AREA. OVER 400 PEOPLE ATTEND THIS EVENT AND ENJOY FINE DINING, DANCING AND NETWORKING.
