Refugees Helping Refugees, Inc. (RHR) seeks to foster the growth, self-determination, and self-reliance of the community by making them agents of their own advancement.
Seeks to foster the growth and development of the refugee community in the Rochester area.
Case Management: Staff provides intensive case management and supportive counseling to refugees and immigrants who are experiencing challenges meeting basic needs. We also provide services for domestic violence victims within these populations and other special immigrants (SIV holders, U visa holders, asylees and asylum-seekers, etc).
Health Support Programs: RHR's health services focus on outreach, screening, promotion, and education to address the critical physical health and psychosocial needs of refugees. To help resolve these community health needs (mental health and chronic diseases), we provide workshops on health literacy and nutrition. Health professionals provide presentations on a variety of topics including: immunizations, child and women care, common acute and chronic illnesses, health system navigation, health insurance, and prescriptions. Through our collaborations with Foodlink and the Center for Community Health of the University of Rochester, we provide comprehensive health and wellness workshops to our families. (Continued on Schedule O)As a result of these sessions, our clients have experienced weight loss, and we have uncovered a number of previously undiagnosed medical problems and linked individuals to treatment. Our pilot program A Voice for Women, a women-focused health education class meets weekly and covers women's health care issues including general health, sexual health, mental health, childbirth, domestic violence, and other gender-specific health topics.
Youth: Programs target young people ages 16-24 but we serve some younger and some older as well. Staff provides all aspects of case management, mentorship, job assistance and educational support.
