TO OPERATE AND MAINTAIN AN ARTISTS WORKSPACE THAT ENCOURAGES THE VOICE AND VISION OF INDIVIDUAL WOMEN ARTISTS, TO PROVIDE PROFESSIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR ARTISTS AND TO PROMOTE PROGRAMS DESIGNED TO STIMULATE PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT, AWARENESS AND SUPPORT FOR THE VISUAL ARTIST.

Artists book publishing ties directly to the artist residency program. our to five residencies per year are dedicated to artist creating habdmade artists books in edition of at least 50. During the more than 40 years of this program, WSW has cultivated a collection of over 225 artists books, which include both traditional book strfuctures and scultural objects. Through the juies selection of artists for the Artists Book residencies, WSW is able to add to its collection on an annual basis. WSWs Artisitic and Executive directors visit university libraries around the country to seel books to their prestigious collections. WSW has nine repositories institutions including the Library of Congress, which owns the entire collection, and seven standing order institutions.
Artists Residencies are the core of WSWs artisitic programming. These 4-10 week opportunities provide artists with time, studio space, equipment, and technical expertise to work on projects of the artisits choosing. Artisits have access to silkscreen, intaglio, letterpress, ceramics, darkroom, book-binding, and papermaking facilities. The artists work is presented to the public sndparticipate in WSWs alumni community after their residency.
