Organizations Filed Purposes: THE SCHENECTADY FOUNDATION'S MISSION IS TO ACHIEVE SUSTAINABLE IMPROVEMENT IN THE HEALTH AND WELFARE OF PEOPLE, ORGANIZATIONS AND NEIGHBORHOODS IN SCHENECTADY COUNTY THROUGH THE INVESTMENT OF PHILANTHROPIC RESOURCES. THE SCHENECTADY FOUNDATION, INC. PROVIDES ADMINISTRATIVE AND OPERATIONAL SUPPORT TO THE FOUNDATION TO ACHIEVE THIS MISSION. THE SCHENECTADY FOUNDATION, INC. CONDUCTS THE FOUNDATION'S GRANTS PROGRAMS FOR COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS, STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS, AND WORKS TO RAISE PUBLIC AWARENESS AND FUNDING TO ADDRESS THE COMMUNITY'S CHARITABLE NEEDS.

TO PROVIDE ADMINISTRATIVE AND OPERATIONAL SUPPORT TO THE SCHENECTADY FOUNDATION.

GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS MADE:THE SCHENECTADY FOUNDATION, INC. PROVIDES ADMINISTRATIVE AND OPERATING SUPPORT TO THE GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS OF THE SCHENECTADY FOUNDATION, INCLUDING THE CREATION OF GRANT APPLICATIONS AND PROCESSES, PROVIDING TECHNICAL ASSISTANTANCE TO GRANT APPLICATIONS AND GRANTEES, REVIEWING AND EVALUATING APPLICATIONS, ENSURING DUE DILIGENCE AND FOLLOW-UP THROUGH GRANT REPORTING, TRACKING AND MANAGING GRANT CONDITIONS AND PAYMENTS.

STRATEGIC INITIATIVES:THE SCHENECTADY FOUNDATION'S COMMUNITY PRIORITIES AND STRATEGIC INITIATIVES ARE CARRIED OUT THROUGH THE WORK OF THE SCHENECTADY FOUNDATION, INC. NEW PRIORITIES ARE ADOPTED FROM TIME TO TIME BY THE FOUNDATION. IN 2019 THE FOUNDATION'S INITIATIVES INCLUDED: 1) FOOD SECURITY: WEEKEND BACKPACK PROGRAM ENSURES THAT MORE THAN 1,000 FOOD INSECURE CHILDREN IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT SCHENECTADY COUNTY RECEIVE A WEEKEND SUPPLY OF FOOD EACH FRIDAY. WEEKEND BACKPACK PARTNERS INCLUDE CITY MISSION OF SCHENECTADY, REGIONAL FOOD BANK OF NORTHEASTERN NEW YORK, MVP HEALTH CARE, SEFCU AND SCHOOL DISTRICTS THROUGHOUT SCHENECTADY COUNTY. DURING 2019, THERE WERE 1,027 STUDENTS SERVED.THE THRIVING NEIGHBORHOODS CHALLENGE WAS LAUNCHED IN 2018 - AN EFFORT TO SUPPORT NEIGHBORHOOD GROUPS AND CITIZENS TO COME UP WITH THEIR IDEAS FOR IMPROVING THEIR COMMUNITY AND NEIGHBORHOOD, AND THEN TO IMPLEMENT A PLAN TO ACCOMPLISH THEIR GOALS. TWELVE PROJECTS WERE AWARDED A TOTAL OF $250,000 BY THE FOUNDATION, FOR IMPLEMENTATION IN 2019. PROJECTS RANGED FROM PUBLIC ART, TO CONSTRUCTING A SPRAY PAD IN A PUBLIC PARK, TO NEIGHBORHOOD CLEAN-UP AND ANTI-LITTER CAMPAIGNS, TO CREATING A BRAND AND BUILDING NEIGHBORHOOD PRIDE. A SECOND ROUND OF THE CHALLENGE AS INITIATED IN 2019 FOR IMPLEMENTATION IN 2020. VARIOUS COMMUNITY GROUPS AND NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATIONS PARTICIPATED INVOLVING 300 PEOPLE AND SERVING APPROXIMATELY 65,000 IN THE CITY OF SCHENECTADY.THE FOUNDATION'S CALL TO ACTION FOR YOUTH - A FIVE YEAR EFFORT TO IMPROVE YOUTH MENTORING, EMPLOYMENT AND CIVIC ENGAGEMENT - WAS CONCLUDED IN 2019 THROUGH GRANTS TO KEY ORGANIZATIONS, AND THE CREATION OF A MENTORING MOVEMENT - "MENTOR-UP" - TO PROVIDE TRAINING, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND SUPPORT TO YOUTH AND MENTORING ORGANIZATIONS. THE SCHENECTADY FOUNDATION INC. WORKED WITH MENTORNY AS ITS PARTNER, PROVIDING A GRANT TO PROVIDE EDUCATION AND SUPPORT TO A DOZEN LOCAL YOUTH ORGANIZATIONS. DURING 2019, 25 YOUTH WERE SUPPORTED WITH TRAINING AND OVER 100 YOUTH SERE SERVED.
