GAMES AND COMPETITIONS: SONY PROVIDED TRAINING AND COMPETITION SPORT SEASONS (WINTER, SUMMER, AND FALL). THE INDIVIDUALS SERVED BY SONY RANGE IN AGE FROM 2 YEARS TO 90 YEARS AND HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH AN INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY OR A COGNITIVE DELAY. COMPETITIONS ARE HELDIN NINE REGIONS AROUND THE STATE AND ATHLETES ADVANCE FROM LOCAL COMPETITION TO REGIONAL, SUPER-REGIONAL, AND STATEWIDE COMPETITIONS IN EACH OF THE THREE SEASONS WITH POTENTIAL ADVANCEMENT TO NATIONAL AND WORLD GAMES AVAILABLE IN ALL 23 SPORTS. SONY HOSTED 6,501 COMPETITIVE EVENTS FOR A TOTAL OF 685,936 REGIONAL SERVICE HOURS, 29,200 STATE GAMES SERVICE HOURS, AND 4,437,814 PUBLIC SCHOOL SERVICE HOURS IN THE 2019 PROGRAM YEAR.
ATHLETES TRAINING: SONY ATHLETES TRAIN WITH COACHES AND CERTIFIED VOLUNTEERS FOR A TOTAL OF 5,152,310 SERVICE HOURS. SONY PROVIDED SERVICE TO ATHLETES ACROSS MULTIPLE INITIATIVES. ATHLETES WERE TRAINED AND EDUCATED IN THE FOLLOWING TRADITIONAL SPORTS DURING 2019 (ALL IN ATHLETE NUMBERS): ALPINE SKIING - 169; ATHLETICS (TRACK & FIELD) 44,806; BASKETBALL - 41,011; BOCCE - 5,841; BOWLING - 46,738; CROSS COUNTRY SKIING - 1,515; CYCLING - 175; DISTANCE RUNNING - 111;EQUESTRIAN - 139; FIGURE SKATING - 54; FITNESS 21,780; FLAG FOOTBALL 25; FLOOR HOCKEY - 23,176; SOCCER - 27,268; GOLF - 3,145; GYMNASTICS - 599; MATP - 1,146; POWER LIFTING - 140; SNOW BOARDING - 17; SNOW SHOEING - 320; SOFTBALL - 23,399; SWIMMING - 3,142; TENNIS - 8,708; VOLLEYBALL - 23,164; YOUNGATHLETES 5,682; PROJECT UNIFY ATHLETES - 7,119, PARTNERS 6,559.
ATHLETE AND COACH'S EDUCATION AND HEALTH SERVICES: THE SONY 'HEALTHY ATHLETES' PROGRAM OFFERED 2,224 HEALTH SCREENINGS THAT PROVIDED THEM WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET WITH HEALTH PROFESSIONALS ACROSS MULTIPLE DISCIPLINES INCLUDING: HEARING, DENTAL, OPTOMETRY, NUTRITION,OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY, PODIATRY, FITNESS, NUTRITION AND PHYSICAL THERAPY FOR THE PURPOSE OF EVALUATION AND CONSULTATION. SONY OFFERED AN 'ATHLETE LEADERSHIP' PROGRAM FOR ATHLETES WHO ARE GAINING SKILLS AS PUBLIC SPEAKERS BY SHARING OUR SPECIAL OLYMPICS MOVEMENT THROUGH PUBLICOUTLETS. SONY ENGAGES A TOTAL OF 41,151 VOLUNTEERS; 5,494 WHO ARE FORMALLY CERTIFIED AS COACHES. IN 2019, SONY HELD 955 VOLUNTEER TRAINING SESSIONS FOR A TOTAL OF 9,550 TRAINING HOURS. ALL CERTIFIED PERSONNEL RECEIVE A GENERAL ORIENTATION, A BACKGROUND CHECK, AND SPECIALIZED PROTECTIVE BEHAVIOR TRAINING. EACH CERTIFIED VOLUNTEER IS RECERTIFIED EVERY 3 YEARS.
