Organizations Filed Purposes:
AFRICAN REFUGE IS A COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATION WHICH AIMS TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR MARGINALIZED YOUTH, FAMILIES, SENIOR CITIZENS, IMMIGRANTS AND REFUGEES.
THE AFTER-SCHOOL YOUTH PROGRAM IS A SAFE SPACE FOR YOUTH TO ENGAGE WITH FRIENDS. SERVICES INCLUDE TUTORING, SPORTS, LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT, ASSISTANCE WITH HOMEWORK, MENTORING, PSYCHOSOCIAL SUPPORT AND ARTS AND CRAFTS PROJECTS. THE MISSION OF THE YOUTH AND FAMILY PROGRAM IS TO HAVE A POSITIVE IMPACT ON REFUGEES, IMMIGRANTS AND NON-IMMIGRANT YOUTH AND FAMILIES SO THAT THEY CAN POSITIVELY CONTRIBUTE TO THE SOCIOECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF SOCIETY. OUR PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY EMBODIES COLLABORATING WITH EXISTING YOUTH AND FAMILY SUPPORT PROGRAMS, COMMUNITY BUILDING AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT.
DROP-IN CENTER IS A SAFE SPACE WHERE REFUGEES, IMMIGRANTS AND LOW-INCOME FAMILIES CAN REACH THEIR FULL POTNENTIAL THROUGH ACCESS TO RESOURCES SUCH AS FREE IMMIGRATION SUPPORT INCLUDING CITIZENSHIP APPLICATION ASSISTANCE, VOCATIONAL COUNSELING, JOB REFERRALS AND RESUME PREPARATION. THE DROP IN CENTER ALSO SERVES AS A SPACE FOR COMMUNITY GROUP MEETINGS AND A COORDINATION SITE FOR PROGRAMS AND SERVICES. THE CENTER ALSO PROVIDES USED AND NEW CLOTHES TO NEWLY-ARRIVED REFUGEES AND IMMIGRANTS, VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OR DISASTERS, AND SINGLE PARENTS MAKING LESS THAN 15,000 PER YEAR.
