Organizations Filed Purposes: THE STATEN ISLAND PARTNERSHIP FOR COMMUNITY WELLNESS (SIPCW) SEEKS TO CREATE A HEALTHIER STATEN ISLAND BY BRINGING TOGETHER PARTNERS, STAKEHOLDERS, AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO ADDRESS EMERGING HEALTH NEEDS. SIPCW FOCUSES ON STATEN ISLANDERS IN NEED, ESPECIALLY THOSE FACING HEALTH BURDENS OR INEQUITIES, TO GIVE ALL COMMUNITY MEMBERS A CHANCE TO LIVE THEIR BEST LIVES.

SIPCW, ESTABLISHED TO PROMOTE WELLNESS AND IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF THE STATEN ISLAND COMMUNITY, ESPECIALLY THOSE FACING HEALTH INEQUITIES, IDENTIFIES AND ADDRESSES EMERGING AND UNMET HEALTH NEEDS THROUGH COLLABORATION AND A MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH. THE THREE LARGEST INITIATIVES ARE: 1) TYSA, A DATA-DRIVEN COLLABORATION AIMED AT LEVERAGING THE POWER OF COLLECTIVE IMPACT TO IMPROVE HEALTH OUTCOMES FOR STATEN ISLAND'S YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS. TYSA IS A DYNAMIC PARTNERSHIP OF PRIVATE AND NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS; CITY AND STATE GOVERNMENT AGENCIES, PHILANTHROPISTS; PARENTS TEACHERS, AND TEENS - MANY OF WHOM HAVE BEEN WORKING TO COMBAT ALCOHOL AND DRUG MISUSE FOR YEARS. 2) BHIP, THE BEHAVIORAL HEALTH INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT (BHIP), WHICH FOCUSES ON RESTRUCTURING THE HEALTH CARE DELIVERY SYSTEM BY REINVESTING IN THE MEDICAID PROGRAM. BHIP FOCUSES SPECIFICALLY ON THE MENTAL HEALTH AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE INFRASTRUCTURE TO REDUCE UNNECESSARY HOSPITALIZATIONS BY INCREASING ACCESS TO QUALITY BEHAVIORAL HEALH SERVICES ON STATEN ISLAND. 3) RICHMOND COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE (RCDA) HEROINE OVERDOSE PREVENTION EDUCATION (HOPE) PROGRAM IS A CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM DIVERSION PROGRAM TO CONNECT LOW LEVEL OFFENDERS WITH PERSON-CENTERED BEHAVIORAL HEALTH AND SOCIAL SUPPORTS WITH THE GOAL OF REDUCING OPIOID OVERDOSES, IMPROVING HEALTH OUTCOMES FOR THOSE SUFFERING WITH SUBSTANCE ABUSE ADDICTION AND REDUCING INVOLVEMENT WITH THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM. 4) THE STATEN ISLAND CHILD WELLNESS INITIATIVE IS A COLLECTIVE IMPACT INITIATIVE ESTABLISHED TO ADDRESS CHILD WELLNESS ON STATEN ISLAND. SI CWI WAS ORIGINALLY FORMED IN RESPONSE TO THE URGENT ISSUES OF CHILD OBESITY THAT EXISTS ACROSS STATEN ISLAND AND THE SRONG DESIRE TO REDUCE AND REVERSE THE RISING RATES OF OBESITY, WHICH HAS SIGNIFICANT TOLLS ON THE HEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF THE BOROUGH'S RESIDENTS. BY 2026, WE WILL IMPROVE CHILD HEALTH AND WELLNESS IN STATEN ISLAND. OUR ACTIVITIES WILL ADDRESS: INCREASING ACCESSIBILITY AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR ACTIVE LIVING. THE AVAILABILITY AND AFFORDABILITY OF FRESH AND HEALTHY FOOD. COMMUNITY-WIDE PARTNERSHIPS THAT SHAPE THE ENVIRONMENT WHERE A CHILD LIVES, LEARNS, PLAYS, AND RECEIVES HEALTHCARE. 5) AMERICA'S PROMISE ALLIANCE - IN 2018 SIPCW RECEIVED GRANT FUNDING TO SUPPORT AMERICA'S PROMISE ALLIANCE EVERY SCHOOL HEALTHY PROJECT THAT EMPOWERS STUDENTS TO IDENTIFY HEALTH DISPARITIES AND ISSUES AFFECTING THEIR ABILITY TO THRIVE IN A HEALTHY SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT. SEVEN STATEN ISLAND SCHOOLS WERE SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROJECT. STUDENTS WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN A YOUTH-LED WELLNESS COUNCIL AND BE TRAINED ON ADVOCACY AND RESEARCH, PREPARING THEM FOR A YOUTH HEALTH SUMMIT IN THE SPRING OF 2020. DURING THE SUMMIT, EACH PARTICIPATING YOUHT-LED COUNCIL WILL SHARE FINDINGS FROM THEIR PROJECT WITH KEY DECISION-MAKERS (POLICYMAKERS, DOE STAFF, PRINCIPALS, ETC.)
