On October 19th, the two villages of Ajuong and Pakeer in Jonglei, South Sudan, were deadly attacked by the militia of Yau Yau, a rebel group in South Sudan. This left 78 dead, 88 injured, 24 children abducted, thousands of cattle raided, and dozens of houses burned to the ground as reported by BBC World News. Paliau is the village in which Ajuong Sudanese Community, Inc. is planning to build a secondary school. In response to this horrific massacre, the Board of Directors of Ajuong Sudanese Community, Inc. had convened on October 21st and unanimously voted to donate five thousand dollars to the victims of Ajuong. The funds were restricted for medical treatment, food supplies, and care assistance to those affected by this atrocity.
