INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION PROGRAMUPF networks with people of diverse religious and national backgrounds to promote a culture of peace and human development. Our International Leadership Conference (ILC) programs promote interfaith cooperation and good governance, and create lasting partnerships, guided by universal principles. In 2018, UPF held 2 major ILC programs attended by around 600 participants from over 40 nations. There is a growing awareness among people throughout the world of the urgent need for innovative vision and courageous leadership if we are to resolve the critical issues of our time. UPF's World Summit programs have been developed to address this need. The World Summit program introduces essential universal values, principles and practices that are necessary to create a world in which people of every region, race, nationality, culture and religion live together in peace, We will consider the root causes of conflict and the ways we can move together from states of conflict, inequality, poverty and enmity toward reconciliation, cooperation and prosperity as one human family under God. Four World Summits were held in 2018 in Senegal, Brazil, Nepal and South Africa.UPF also offers educational programs for young people. These programs, organized by the Religious Youth Service (RYS) develop leadership and skills for young adults through service, sports, and character education. UPF's character education curriculum focuses on universal values and core ethical principles common to all cultures. Service projects focus on peacebuilding, as well as topics such as health care, nutrition, literacy, and microfinance. UPF sponsored 2 Religious Youth Service programs in 2018, in Honduras and Sri Lanka. In 2016, UPF founded the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP) as an organization of parliamentarians on a global level to seek out the realization of a world of everlasting peace and the development of mankind towards a path of coexistence and mutual prosperity for future generations. Thus, it is an international network created to take on critical issues such as territorial disputes, religious conflicts, racial conflicts, environmental degradation, climate change, violent extremism and poverty, through the common solidarity and cooperation of the parliamentarians of the world. UPF sponsored over 20 IAPP conferences in 2018.UPF founded the Sunhak Peace Prize Foundation LLC in 2014, to recognize the effort of individuals and organizations for their peace work to serve, expand and spread the vision of peace in relation to three key banners, "respect for human rights," "conflict resolution, and "ecological conservation." The $1 million prize is generally awarded every two years. In February 2019 the Federation's Sunhak Peace Prize program awarded prizes to Dr. Akinwumi Ayodeji Adesina, President of the African Development Bank Group, in recognition of his work to improve Africa's economy through promoting good governance and encouraging agricultural innovation; and Waris Dirie, human rights pioneer in the fight against female genital mutilation (FGM). Each winner received a medal, a plaque, and a cash prize of $500,000. Each of the winners directed the Federation to donate their cash prize to a nonprofit organization that they selected which does work in their field: to World Hunger Fighters Foundation and Desert Flower Foundation, respectively, instead of receiving the money for themselves.
